Well I think the division is wide open enough to where anyone half decent could potentially pick up a belt. Perez is solid but he's a slacker. Disagree about Charr being a 50/50 fight though, I heavily favor Perez in that one. He'll have to of slipped big time for Charr to have that much of a chance.

If Perez is in shape he can regain his status as the contender.

Mike Perez is an excellent boxer. Povetkin knocked him out cleanly, but that can happen in the heavyweight division. I hope Perez has recovered mentally, because the beating he handed out to Abdusalamov and the consequences of that beating, clearly affected Perez as well. He is still young for a heavyweight and can rebuild his career. I hope he is somehow in decent shape. He would beat someone like Solis or Charr without too many problems though.

His chin won't let him compete at top level.

Perez has a good chin. He was never hurt in any fight before he got knocked out vs Povetkin. I believe only a few heavyweights would be standing if Povetkin landed those shots.

Perez is turning into the typical Cuban professional heavyweight, turning into a fat slob.

Maybe, but o don't really see it. Perez's best performance was a debatable draw against Taken. Abdumsalamov only ever beat a shot McCline, and barely. Charr has wins over some good shot names and non shot fringe contenders, more than Perez, he's just faced more overall top comp than Perez and thus taken more losses. Also, Charr won a couple rounds against mutual opponent Povetkin whom Perez got blitzed in 1 by. Still, Perez probably deserves to be a slight favorite, but it would be as close to 50/50 as fringe contenders get.

Charr wouldn't have been remotely competitive against Takam and Jennings like Perez was. Those fights came down to the brink and Perez probably would have won both if he didn't fade so badly. Povetkin dominated Charr start to finish. Just because he caught Perez cold early and finished him several rounds earlier than he did Charr is meaningless. Charr was never in the fight to begin with...... Boxings a lot more complicated than that dude. Perez is far more skilled and proven than despite his mixed results. I honestly don't see how anyone could actually argue that they're on the same level or that a fight would be competitive.

Come on,y you're usually one of the more insightful posters, except your harder on Wilder than he deserves(and he deserves to be treated harshly), but the only difference is that Perz fought a few different fighters, not even better fighters! Neither is any more proven than the other. Who has Jennings fought that proves he's on a different level than anyone Charr fought. Possibly shot Wlad in a fight he clearly lost? There's no rationale reason to rank Perez substantially higher than Charr. It would be a very interesting fight, and I suspect Charrs size would give him an advantage over the otherwise nearly identically resumed Perez.

Perez is just a far better schooled fighter man. He's come out of the Cuban amateur system which is one of the best in the world. Over 400 fights where he faced and beat the likes of David Price, Luis Ortiz, Kenny Egan, Constantin Bejenaru among others.. Also won gold in the world juniors in 2004 at LHW.

I like Charr. But he has little skill and isn't exactly a KO artist. He's essentially a poor mans Chisora. Perez would outbox him with relatively ease and take a comfortable decision. You've also neglected to mention that Charr has struggled with much lower level fighters at well. Kingpin, Zach Page, Shot Danny Williams among others. Not sure if you've seen Charrs recent fight against that unknown Albanian CW. But he looked pretty **** and dropped several rounds on my card. His HW size and pressure was really the only thing that saw him through. Perez doesn't struggle again lower level guys. He was caught cold and KO'd early by Povetkin, but other than that he's held his own with top 10 fighters in Jennings and Takam. Despite his poor work ethic. Charrs come up much shorter against that kind of competition.
