http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/mike-perez-opponent-named-ding-ling-man-276226 "Perez is getting in some work before a spring showdown with Alexander Povetkin in a WBC title eliminator." So Perez-Povetkin maybe in april-may.
A Povetkin-Perez fight is a very nice looking fight, really hope it happens. Staying busy by taking on Wilson is a good move. Perez hasn't won a fight for well over a year and with Povetkin looking better than ever lately Perez needs to be sharp if that fight happens.
Eh, I don't know. Ding is 40 and has seen better days, though he did score that upset of Rodriguez in 2013. (but then, rating that victory is hard because Rodriguez spent fifteen years completely padding his record with his previous biggest step up before Ding being a shot Owen Beck...and he was kayoed in 1 by Ochieng after Ding...) Take away the Rodriguez KO and Ding has lost six of seven. I actually scored Gomez vs. Wilson I to Gomez, which if the judges had done would put Ding at 1-13 in his last fourteen. (as it stands he is 2-12) going back to his knockout of Robert Marsh. His last meaningful victory before Gomez I & Rodriguez was his Knockout of the Year candidate over Emanuel Nwodo...all the way back in 2007. While some are projecting that Perez is on a down-slide after the Abdusalamov war (and the psychological torment its aftermath wrought on him) you have to figure at 29 he is still fresher than Ding at 40 with nearly thrice as many pro rounds logged under his belt. :conf
I don't believe in that theory about Perez. He fought as usual against Jennings and lost by 3 points. In Fields fight he was more on fire than now.
Yeah, people overstate his 'ruin' IMO. I still consider Perez a top heavyweight with a bright future, myself. If he isn't 'damaged goods' then Ding should be just a stepping-stone for him. (with all due respect to Ding)
