Mike Perez was kind enough to talk to us at Punchbag blog (www.Punchbagblog.com) He talked Fury, Cuba, Ireland, Price, Chisora, prizefighter and who he wants next. Let me know what you guys think. All positive and negative feedback is welcome. Cheers. http://bit.ly/zrymmh
Good interview, maybe it's him or your questions. But you could have got a bit more juice out of him. He seems very dry, perhaps a little banter could have helped there. But good to see what he's up to. He must be frustrated as hell that he's as avoided as the plague at the moment following his prizefighter victory. Shame, I'd love to see more of him in action. He seems fearless, and has an excellent left hook.
He's got no exuses. Almost ever GB/UK fighter worth a squirt of **** is well known. MeNuggett, Sexton, Williams, Sprott, Audely, you name em....if they are decent they got a name. He should have no trouble getting fights with those guys. But, where are the fights? $$$$ $$$$$ $$$$$. Another who thinks he's worth so much that he can't make a fight unless it's for megabucks.:-(
I sent the questions via email so I couldnt really do any banter because his english isnt very good so he might not understand what i'm goin on about. Cheers.
I think Rodriguez would mow him down. David is 6'4 250. And he's one of the best body punchers I've seen. He's also taken some bombs............albeit from not from no devastating punchers. Also, I've seen that Perez can take a shot, but it was not Fields and smartly so. Mike knew Fields could be dropped, and he done it fast enough to not find out if Fields power was all it has been boasted on. He is dealing with that throat slashing deal though, and a guy like Perez could easily catch him with a good hook there and potentially end David right then and there....IDK....anyone know if a fighter can come back from something of that degree? Well, 7 fighters all in the top 100, 2 semiactive top 50s have tentatively agreed to be his next. Getting confirmed names and offers has proven difficult. Perez would likely be a tough fight to make without huge money so we can't make a bet, but I would definitly take Rodriguez to beat almost anyone in the top 50. Mitchell would be one I wouldn't want to see Rodriguez against just yet. Wach is another. I'm hoping Oquendo, Walker, Austin or McCall. Any of those are decent step up fights fir David to display his power over a few rounds. Walker obviously being the softer chin of the group, but due to his size and power, one that could force David to fight in close the whole time, and it would look like a lumberjacking expedition. And I think Perez is a beast. But he got people willing to fight him on his terms. And other promoters want him, so he could easily get guys like a said and others like Bydenko, Moli, Charr, and Gerber. Those guys are looking for names themselves. Wish Rodriguez had such a pool of willing dance partners.:-(
They both need to step up,fighting McCall who is almost 50 doesn't work. Specially Rodriguez who is a 10 yrs pro, it's why would be good to see them against each other
I agree, but at this point Rodriguez doesn't exactly have people beating down his door for a fight. He's 34 and needs probably 2 big wins to get into position for a world title shot. Obviously he'd fare better against Wlad at this point since he's mostly known as a puncher only. But if he got 47 y/o McCall, he could work the body and mix it up some without his opponent crumbling. McCall is one tough summamabitch. I like that fight. Also Dominic Guinn, a semiactive top 50 would be a great fight as well, since Guinn has a p4p chin himself. David needs a top 100 opponent who aint a journeyman, but is himself one or two big wins from a shot. Yeah, Perez would be great, but their miles apart on a deal, and thousands of miles apart on a location.:rofl
If Solis looks healthy that would be a good fight for this summer.Ortiz also but honestly , I'm not sold on Ortiz yet. I believe showtime was interested in this fight since they can't get any descents hw nowadays
Ortiz is on the list......but now that GBP is showing interest, they likely want to get Nino into a fight that draws headlines. Like a Texas brawl, a showdown in Chitown with the texan and the Chi fighter, Oquendo or McCall. Guinn is from the SW, Little Rock, so that could be an event....... Solis is on the comeback, WE HOPE, and while I'd favor David to beat him, I couldn't see Solis risking his grill after such a controversial KO. Back to back KO1s would likely ruin him, and Rodriquez has it in him to make that happen. The problem with Cuban fighters is so few of the great ones are based in the US. And they often sign with Euro promoters who keep them over there. They build em up, then hide them away. As a Cuban fan, that's gotta get under your skin something fierce. Rodriguez problem is not that he's being hidden away or overpricing himself for bigger fights, but just the opposite. He wasted so much time being promoted as a freakshow, that people quit taking hims seriously, and now, at 34, how much longer does he have to create some real movement toward the titles. May 5 is coming fast.....we'll see who step's up for this fight. Ortiz would be great, but so would Hanks who is also in the mix, but like I said, as a fan, I'd settle for Guinn or McCall or Oquendo as well.:deal
I recently saw a picture of McCall and he looks 60 yrs old fat and wrinkled . He was a beast but at his age with all his previous problems with addiction it will be a crime to let him fight at that level.
He's been pretty active and still holding his own against top guys. He failed to get his liscense prior to the Wach fight last winter, but that was a misunderstanding from what I hear, but rumors of course were that he'd fallen off the wagon. If he's clean and sober, he's a test for any upncoming HW, or a great stay busy fight for any established HW. I've heard his name mentioned for the upcoming Adamek fight on NBC. Hell, he'd be a great test for Perez as well.:deal
