I'm taking this to be a big off night for Perez post the Mago trajedy, but if not and that is his level of perfromance then I don't see him as anything but a possible contender along the lines of Mormeck and Pianeta level.
Perez can be outboxed and can be outworked on the inside as well. Lets remember abdusalamov was a fearsome puncher and was landing his best hayemakers on perez all night. Takam is a big guy and also landed heavy clean punches on perez. One of the best chins in the sport clearly but it might be on the verge of getting cracked. The *****s in perez are starting to show now and i reckon some heavyweights will fancy their chances. You would have to favour takam in a rematch as well. Perez is also very lucky he didnt get complete starched by takam just after the headbutt. I reckon even wlad klitchko would have taken that free shot.
Abel said that after the headbutt Mike struggled and seemed distant and out of focus he believes the headclash caused him to fall away. That's what he told HBO anyways..
I think Perez is above the likes of Mormeck and Pianeta but below the likes of Pulev and Stiverne. Had Magomed not broken his hand in the 2nd rd i think he would have got knocked out in that fight.
I think part of the reason was that he was injured but also that he dosen't have a big promotional company behind him to get him fights. It's a shame for him that he stunk the place out against Takam on HBO as another good performance and HBO would have given him another slot and kept him busy.
Amongst other things he coudnt be bothered to an extent, lots of rumours at the time that he kept losing interest
Takam won the fight, but the judges were biased against him..................Mago did break his wrist in the 2nd round, otherwise he probably would have knocked Perez out.
Farmboxer - posting veiled racism on esb since 2004 Why is it that you always favour the white fighter over the black fighter?
