I liked Michael, but he was one of those heavyweight champs (and contenders) that come around from time to time who quite obviously know they don't belong in the upper echelon of the division and proceed to maximize their earnings while minimizing their risk. Usually everything works out for boxing in the end, but the waiting is the hard(-est) part.

But they will move him. And if they move him, where do the Spinks legs have to be positioned in order to land the counters you are talking about?

The bigger problem is the amount of punches Vitali throws every round. And he does not use a jab to set things up. On the contrary---he uses a jab at the end of his combinations and re-sets the distance.

Spinks as a heavy did not throw many punches. And Vitali was very very underrated in his ability to come right over the top of an opponent's jab.

And the vitali defense is far better than given credit for. It was extremely difficult to land a combo on him. Guys would land the initial shot and miss the follow ups because of his terrific radar. So spinks might land a 1 at a time. It's the other guy landing the volume of punches. Which creates the issue of the heavyweight version of Spinks having to absorb. His thing was to not absorb and was not part of his game & the attrition factor of both guys is pretty wide.
