Way too early to talk about either of these guys against Spinks. For all the talk of `Krusher` Kovalev,he`d learn about trye, one punch power with Spinks. Forget Stevesnon who has ZERO chance. He was hurt and drooped against Fonfara, so he`d get a nice long nap against Spinks. As for Kovalev. You could get it from either hand against Spinks, pick your poison ... Either the straight right,or the uppercut that almost decapitated Marvin Johnson. He`d have to come after Spinks (as Spinks could outbox him) and there`s the problem. Maybe he could walk down and old Hopkins. But walking into the firing range of Spinks ...The lt.heavies back the were IRON ! Spinks would measure and keep him at a safe distance and find his range. At some point Kovalev would have to try and be more aggressive and when he does...Spinks 7rd KO .
I actually think people tend to forget what a special fighter Michael Spinks was... One loos to prime Mike Tyson, think about that for a bit.
Spinks only a SLIGHT favorite over Kov? LMFAO! Now we can see who just started to follow boxing. Kov is my current favorite fighter, but he'd be a huge underdog to Spinks, and for good reason. Spinks would stop both of them. But for what it's worth, Kov would acquit himself much better than Stevenson. Spinks would destroy Stevenson in a few rounds.
Yeah but thinking about it the over riding thought still goes back to just how easy Tyson beat him and that kinda cast a shadow on how special Spinks actually was.
Can anyone imagine Kovalev (about the same age versus 50-year old BHOP in '14 as Spinks was in '86) facing the twenty-two year old prime Tyson ... Shorter than Spinks .. with less reach ... and having faced a considerably weaker list of opponents - even if you cut it off at 5 1/2 years (Kov's career to date) in with Mike ... how long would he be vertical once the bell sounded? Does he do 1:31? ------------- Spinks all day over both. I don't believe wins over fifty year old men (or forty year olds for that matter) are ever relevant measuring sticks of greatness ... it is a statement on the era not anything more. Since the division is weak and there is not one unflawed participant he will need to fight a few more guys to answer different questions about his respective abilities/capabilities. His resume to date is beyond thin. Pascal and Stevenson and even Dawson should all happen consecutively. Hopefully Beterbiev happens as well. Maybe Ward moves up (only Golovkin really needs to occur with Ward at '68 before he moves on from SMW where there are no more decent or important challengers) and even Andre Dirrell (as he has the frame and while a late or slow maturer he is going to inevitably "grow" into a LHW) to be his potential or eventual challengers in the next twenty-four months (or so) at LHW. After those fights, it will be clear whether he could be in any conversation with the best names at LHW ... like a Michael Spinks.
