Mike Spinks vs. Bob Foster.

Come on man, won't take five minutes, and you'll do him justice :good

I have Spinks just inside my top 50 if I'm not mistaken. He's one of a few 175lbers (Foster is another) that I'd strongly favour to smash a prime Roy into oblivion. And to take Holmes' '0' was another fantastic achievment, regardless of what you think of the rematch.

 

I am only now getting into Spinks, which is why I was hoping somebody would do an in depth entry for the encyclo.

How good was Holmes by this stage fella?

And, how far removed from this form was Spinks when he fought Tyson?

 

Spinks is one of the weirdest fighters ever. It's hard to really describe his style or compare him.

I think he might have struggled with how imposing Foster was, his jab combined with his power.

 

Its a shame Bob wasn't born a few years later, imagine adding him into the mix of late 70s/early 80s LHWs! Would've had a good few epic fights with him against that lot. I haven't watched as much as Fosters LHW reign as I should have due to his lack of comp at that weight, only his fights with Finnegan, Tiger and Mike Quarry are the fights I've seen of his at 175.

Would have to go with Spinks in this one.

My favourite Spinks fight for whoever does him on the Encyclopedia, inexperienced Spinks v Slugger Lopez = brilliant fight.

Mike Spinks was awkward as ****.

He had been out of action for a while leading up to the Tyson fight. No amount of awkwardness would ever have seen him last much linger than he did against Mile though, just an awful matchup for him.

Spinks wasn't a massive puncher against Heavies. See how many shots it took for him to get rid of Cooney.

Holmes was a quality operator at the time of, and after Spinks' amazing win over him. Although from what I've read, Holmes felt he was cruising to topping Marcianos record and felt Spinks as easy touch.
