l heard he was a sparring partner for Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. He did not have big knock out power, but he was a difficult boxer for most to deal with.Does any body have any storys about Mike Hunter and how does he fare against say Holyfield if the fight had taken place.
The book "Rocky Lives! Heavyweight Upsets of the 1990s has some good material on him. Supposedly a headstrong guy who did things "his way", training included.
Thanks Russell, l will try and get hold of that book. l was told he was Mike Tysons sparring partner, before the Douglas fight and Mike got cut in sparring and generally looked bad against Hunter. So they got rid of Hunter.l would say he did not reach his full potential.
I first saw him on ESPN Top Rank Boxing in 1985. He upset prospect Avery Rawls. He came into the ring with a cowboy hat, kerchief pulled over his mouth and nose snd and a holster. He was very unorthidox. He became an ESPN favorite for awhile. He could fight but was a small hw and didn't have much power He was never championship material, more like fringe contender material. He dropped down to Cruiserweight and upset a fading Dwight Muhammad Qawi. in the early 90s.
