I was told this earlier and hoped it was just a rumour. Tragic tragic news, thoughts and prayers with his family at this sad time.
St Andrew's Sporting Club has confirmed that Mike Towell has indeed passed away. Now being reported by Scottish media. Truly devastating news. Thoughts are with Mike's family and friends.
Awful news, My thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends. It's so sad it's events like these that gives all us boxing fans a thudding jolt and reminds us all of the danger involved and true bravery of all boxers.
Just to add my own sympathies to al who knew poor Mike. Don't know the details, except that he was hurt in the first?? Dunno if the doc/ret/corner could have been more alert. Victor Loughlin seems a solid ref the times I've seen him. Puts the cheap talk about 'British stoppages' in perspective. Rip.
rip mike, saw him fighting on a few occasions and he was very very exciting and always a pleasure to watch. I've read an article where his partner has said he had headaches for up to a month before this fight and if this is true why on earth did his team not postpone the fight as a precaution? he apparently couldn't spar because of these headaches? i just hope that all managers/promoters and coaches start to heed the warning signs for their fighters in the future as this might have been one tragedy that might not have needed to happen if his team were more attentive to him. i hope his whole team take a long hard look at themselves, especially his coaches who were working with him day in day out and must have knew about these prolonged headaches. my thoughts are with his family
RIP Mike Towell and thoughts are with the family at this sad time. Absolute sickened to the core on hearing this news.
