I think Quick Tillis gave the blueprint on how to fight Tyson.

He won 3 or 4 rounds out of 10.

Which is why Ali would've beaten him also. Stay outside, employ movement and a good jab. Set up the right hand and tie Mike up in close. I remember watching the Tyson-Tillis fight and thinking that Ali would've done a better job than Tillis who did pretty well himself and did show the boxing world the blueprint for beating Tyson.

Tyson DID look frustrated against Smith. In fact, he was doing what he did later in his career and went looking for the turn-around shot, I think.

    He won big though.

You cant blow everyone out. If a fighter is in there to survive and not get knocked out, what kind of victory is that? To me its a dominant performance, because the opponent can do nothing but try to hold and make it to the end of the fight. The Tillis fight was early in his career, it was one of the first fights. After he won the title, Tyson faced guys who tried to box, slug, hold, and none of it worked, he beat them all, until Douglas gave him a shalacking.

I think Tills won 4 rounds vs Tyson, but no one really beat Tyson with slick boxing skills alone.

The first blue print on how to beat Tyson to me was Frank Bruno. Bruno stunned Tyson to the point where Tyson rocked back and forth for a few moments. Had Bruno landed something serious, he might have won via Upset Ko. As it was the nervous Bruno did mot follow up, and Tyson finished him off in round five. The bottom line is Tyson was a front runner, and was not one to score late Ko's.

After the Bruno fight, Buster Douglas, a man with similar size and tools to Bruno built upon some of the things Bruno did, too Tyson into deep waters, and finished him off late. Holyfield and Lewis did the same thing.

One thing on Tyson is, he really had some issues with bad swelling. I would say a good out fighter and one with good mental focus is best equipped to defeat Tyson...but he has to do reasonably well early as Tyson was very dangerous in the early rounds. Tyson was not the type of fighter to get up and win, nor he did show great heart when he had to face adversity.

Wrong most fighters who fought Tyson came into the ring afraid for some reason ( What grown man would be afraid of a coward who beats women?) Tillis probably beat Tyson. Tony Tucker did well against Tyson even though his hand was broke. Any half way decent boxer who isn't afraid of Tyson's hype has a good chance of beating him.

    He didn't.

He didn't do as well as has been made out. Both fighters seemed content on a Tyson UD after about three rounds.

    Fer ****'s sake!

Well, props for you keeping on trying, though, I guess. :thumbsup

But as a sidenote, "half way decent boxer who isn't afraid of Tyson's hype" should probably include at least Holmes and Thomas, wouldn't you say? I forget, what happened there? They lost because of freak injuries while way ahead on points, didn't they?

Larry knocked out Mike in 5 and was disqualified when they fought. For some reason people have revised history and have Tyson sparking him in four, conveniently forgetting when Peanut Head beat the count (ala Snipes), cleared his head and beat Tyson up, culminating in him smacking him when he was on the deck, thus bringing the DQ.

Yeah, that was it. Thanks! It's only because of Don King's stranglehold over global media that most still believe that Tyson won that fight by KO. :happy

And corrrect me if I'm wrong here, but Thomas was about to take Tyson out when he suffered acute heart failure due to the six kilos of coke he'd done in the days leading up to the fight, right?

Almost as odd as the opening post. First time I've heard the Smith fight being labelled a 'blueprint'. A blueprint in "How to Fight like a Big ****ing Lemon" perhaps.
