Mike Tyson who beat Michael Spinks against James Toney who fought at heavyweight about 2005. What happens? Could James avoid what happened to Michael?

No Tyson would smash him to bits.

I like Toney...but no way he can compete with the '88 version of Tyson.

    Tyson KO1

It would be interesting to see Tyson against a fighter shorter than him who is quite slick. However, Toney is outgunned and outclassed here. The best he can hope for is a Buster Mathis-like performance. Probably a corner stoppage; Toney still has a very solid jaw, even at heavyweight.

Mike would do him with body shots. If there is a game plan to stop Toney, particularly at HW. It would invlove Tyson whacking away at his ribs.

I love Toney, but he would surely not make the final bell in this one. Tyson's speed and ferocity would be too much for a former middleweight, even one with the amazing chin and defence of Toney. If Tyson fought at a high speed and mixed it up between body and head, I think either the referee or Toney's corner would stop the slaughter around round 6.

Mike had the firepower but James was slick inside and would not be afraid of Tyson( big part of the battle) This fight could develope into a problem for Mike if we get a fit version of Toney(Holyfield version)....Tyson does not walk through guys who are not afraid of him....he smells fear and lack of

That's all well and good, but I'd sure like to see Toney with much better footwork for a fight against this guy. Toney dips and slides and does everything from the waist up. But a young Tyson is throwing multiple hard shots in there and some of them are simply going to get thru. And then his counters aren't hard enough to discourage Tyson & Tyson would also rough him up and foul in the first round.

I'd like the Toney chances much better if he could slide over and be at 11 or 1 o'clock or even better 10 and 2. Then, use that upperbody movement and be out of range and force Tyson to be off balance.

I sure wanted to see a faded Tyson fight Toney but there wasn't any way in the world the Tyson camp was going to take on a slickster like Toney or even Byrd. Those guys won't make mental mistakes like Botha did & it would've been interesting to see Tyson try and systematically break a guy down and have a gameplan of going for a 9th round ko type result.

Perhaps a version of Tyson that fought Ruddock would be more of an even bout, come to think of it. I sure wasn't sold on the Ruddock defense or handspeed and figured Tyson to land fairly easy on a big guy standing in front of him like that. But Mike really didn't look all that sharp to me & Ruddock should've been a highlight reel ko victim in there. Those Toney skills against that Tyson would be considerably more interesting.

    Toney would get slaughtered.

His great defense, and toughness wouldnt mean **** against the 88 Tyson. Mike would walk through him, and destroy him.

    Tyson KO 3.

Incidentally, Toney started talking about moving up to heavyweight and fighting Tyson (whom he always had great respect for) from '96 on. A lot of loud mouthing on his part of course, but he did keep his promise about the heavyweight part.

I like Toney chances here, many people say that Toneys defence and cleverness "won't mean ****" with Tyson. WRONG - 88' Tyson fought no one like Toney, his menagers wouldn't allow it. I think that JT could survive Tyson's early attacks and outpoint him through 12 rounds. Could.

What do you mean "his managers wouldn't allow it" ? You are suggesting that there was someone like Toney around who they kept Tyson away from. Who would that be?
