    It would take someone with
    1) talent
    2) a strong promotional push

    I don't think it would take as many fights as Mike had. Think of the plan they used for Loma and they would apply that. 1st or second fight beats a WBC top ten-fifteen contender, then gets a shot via voluntary defense because the money is put up. Stars would have to align somewhat but not totally out of the realm of possibility

    Yeah, I think he's too old now but it if a belt had been vacant it would have been so easy to toss Richard Torrez Jr in there with an oldie like Pulev and flip a coin on if he can land a bomb before the inexperience gets exploited.

    This is one of those boxing records that is still up for grabs.

    There’s a thread on Quora that asks what Cus D’Amato saw in Mike Tyson that made him think he could be Heavyweight Champion of the World.
    Mike Tyson weighed 200 pounds when he was 13 years old, and was knocking grown men out.
    Nope, I can’t imagine why Cus thought Tyson would be good at boxing. That’s a real mystery.
