So do I. It's one of those fights that, even though only lasting a couple of rounds, that has become part of the Dempsey folklore. How can it not have? As for 88 tyson.. I see a wild first round with tyson getting caught by Firpo s massive bombs, tyson been put on the back foot and against the ropes. Then tyson coming out for the second and catching Firpo straight off with a short hard right. Firpo gets up at 8 but tyson catch s him with a fast left right that drops him again for the ten count.
I can see him lasting slightly longer than spinks but less than Larry holmes.. If that makes sense edd.
It depends what kind of referee. A 1923 referee Firpo might last longer than a 1988 referee. Firpo was brave and Tyson would have to keep him down for the count. Berbick lasted into the second round with an awful strategy and Firpo survived eight knockdowns with Dempsey before being laid out, so maybe he makes it into round 2.
I don't think Firpo makes it out of Round 1. It's not really a fair match to be made. You put Firpo in a time machine, pit him against Mike in '88 and you have all the ingredients for Firpo shatting the bed.
