    Another vote for Tyson early.

I just don't see the Bowe defense handling the speed of the Tyson shots. Or, the quick spring in his legs to attack from. Bowe isn't exactly slipping jabs either--it's all hard punches and hooks. Lots of snap and since Bowe isn't the type to tie a guy up or use footwork, he'll be in that sweet spot range Mike likes guys to be at.

Everyone talks about the Bowe uppercut--but that's all he had on the inside. right hand only and it wasn't as if he threw a ton of them. Actually with his defense, he is as available to tyson's right uppercut as he is to landing his own. And I sure see Tyson landing that deadly right hand to the body and quick right uppercut combo on this guy.

What would help the Bowe chances offensively is if he could throw a straight right hand. Everything is a wide looping shot and he'll get beat to the punch by this opponent. Back then, Tyson was real sharp with his timing of stepping in while throwing a right hand lead. Later on he sure lost that accuracy/timing.

But I see the Tyson handspeed solving that defense the first minute or 2 of the fight. And what does Bowe do in there aside from trying to trade to get out of trouble? The ref is going to be stepping in to end things with way too much time for bowe to kill while hurt. 2 or 3 round fight, depending on how much time is left in a round for Bowe to try and kill.

Bowe KO by uppercut. 88 Tyson folds against 92 Bowe.

88 Tyson was a really special fighter much better than Bowe ever was. Events that happened in 89 and beyond have created a re-written history in the minds of most people as to how great a boxer Tyson was back then. His conditioning was superb, his jab came first and he had a greatly underrated, snappy, hurtful left jab, his speed and power frightening, his combinations pinpoint, his defense exceptional, his will to win almost unstoppable. Watch extensive film of his sparring sessions with Oliver Mccall for example and remind yourselves just what kind of force of nature we are talking about here.

I have a very high opinion of Bowe, he could have achieved significantly more but never the less was a outstanding fighter.

However, he liked to trade and loved a all out brawl........those are deadly sins against a prime Tyson, he is simply to fast, too hard to hit clean and punches exceptionally hard with both hands, text book style.

Nobody is out slugging or over powering Tyson, period, you have to move, pump the jab and tie him up non stop to frustrate him and it helps if you are at least 6'3 +.

But Bowe is going to trade not box and that will be his undoing, no doubt.

good post, i also like bowe's jab, size and short hooks and uppercuts inside, i actually think he would win the exchanges on the inside.

also keep in mind that bowe had better stamina and carried his power in late rounds- rocked holyfield in round 10 and knocked him down in round 11.

    bowe by late tko

Holy outslugged and overpowered Tyson. Mike was past his best, but so was Holy.

I also think Douglas had the better of Tyson in just about every aspect. Dominated him almost as clearly on the inside as he did on the outside.

These two examples have to be seen as aberrations for your point to hold true. The problem with that is that except for an almost hysterical McNeely I can't think of anyone else who really gave it a good go.

Well, I suppose Tubbs and Mathis jr can be said to have stayed in the pocket with Tyson. And they both did well before they got caught. Now give Tubbs Bowe's heart, power, chin and stamina...

I disagree. I pick Bowe. Tyson didn't fight anyone with the combination of size and skill set of Bowe. Rid**** would have manhandled him on the inside and knocked him out late.

    And I'm not joking.

Bowe would definitely get rocked numerous times in the opening rounds, MT would have no trouble at all tagging him clean. RB however has all the tools you need to beat Tyson - chin, power, size advantage and a good jab, if RB can survive the first few rounds and get his jab off who knows how it would go. Genuine 50/50 fight.
