I always was a fan of Holmes, but I too don't think he carried Ali at all. If anything, he was embarrassed that he couldn't finish him off.

How's this for a Mike Tyson Appreciation, let's go back to 1995 when Tyson fought Buster Mathis Jr FREE on FOX 11! I was a young kid and remember watching this with pops back in those days. This was huge back then, Tyson was fighting on free TV, And the best thing about it was there was no buffering or audio outages during this fight. 40 million plus watched this event live. Great times. Thank you Mike Tyson for the memories.

I remember that. He got interviewed by John Madden, and I think one of the questions he asked was "Do you like boxing?"

I think it was a sanctioned fight in order to sell more tickets/get more views. Tyson vs Jones was an exhibition and they were obviously going around 50% of their normal intensity. It ended in a draw just to be nice to Jones.

If Tyson vs Paul was also an exhibition, I think fewer people would buy tickets to see it.

I remember this too. I was 10 years old. I think MadTV and a few other shows even referenced it that night.

The aim of the fight was to make money which they achieved. Even though it was a sanctioned match, it didn't really change anything about the fight.

Love Mike as a fighter but all the praising, for what? He's just a greedy dude that knew he had nothing left and stole money. People just suck up to him. All the inspirational stuff cracks me up.

He looked so much worse than vs Roy.

With respect, MT is the most ass kissed fighter in history. I think the last thing he needs is another thread praising him. Go to the classic forum on here & I swear every mythical match up somehow ALWAYS devolves to well.....Tyson woulda beat all of them or some such thing. The reality is at 58 years old, he got a payday and a forum he wasn't worthy of b/c well......he's 58. Bernard Hopkins fought real fights into his 50's. Mike got 20M for living on a name that hasn't done anything meaningful in over 2 decades. Good on him. Glad he got the chance. But another "praise Tyson thread? Come on man.

Hell Big George pummelled a very game Shannon Briggs at 46 & got robbed. No, Tyson made 20M Friday for stuff he did in the 90's and I salute him for it, but he's been praised 2nd only to Ali in all of boxing and wasn't even the nest of his era IMO. FOR ME the Tyson love fest is and has been a bit much for years now. Sorry to be a dick, but his fan boy kingdom needs to give it a rest IMO.

I certainly don't appreciate giving boxing a black eye on Friday. Horrible look.
