So tell me why most of the HW's technique is horrible. Clumsy, slow and look like complete bums. AJ is legit and Klit looked better than I had seen him in a while, but make no mistake about it, the HW's from the 80s and 90s were way better athletes. They may be bigger and stronger today, but that's where it ends.

 

Just because of the size difference. You make Tyson 6'5, and nobody on the planet in 100 years could beat him in a boxing ring. And even at his 5'9, I wouldn't bet against him prime for prime vs anyone!

 

nah Tyson was having a mellow day. In other interviews I have heard him say he would beat them, in his book he states if he didn't go to prison he would have beaten all the 90s heavyweights. People that takes Tyson's words as gospel will end up very confused. the man changes his mind like the wind. most fighters do it anyway, taking their word for anything is a bit silly.

 

If you make Tyson 6'5" he'd be Aj, poor man's Aj cuz he doesn't have the heart or nearly the mental makeup of Aj

 

His career certainly gives hope to shorter heavies, but very much doubt we'll ever see a 5'9 guy like that again. The heavies now are bigger and more athletic so it would be even tougher. Guys like Berbick and Mike Spinks would not put a serious dent in Joshua, Wlad or Wilder. Would maybe go life and death with Parker on todays showing albeit.

 

whats the truth? it sounds like he is contradicting himself to me.

 

Tysons height is what made his style. At 6'5 he would be more like Joshua and would have to change his style bc hes not ducking under as many punches then. Both are relatively still comparable,Joshua has better ring Iq ,Tyson has better instinct on the fly of countering a punch.I beleive Joshua has more heart but Tyson has the better chin...it would be interesting actually.

 

Tyson would most likely win at the present time of joshuas career. His speed /power and counter punching abilities were phenomonal at the 80's period no matter who he fought it was just a brief spectacle of awhat seemed to be a guy no one could land enough shots on to win which is what actually made Tyson that dangerous.. Tyson at his best was the best fighter ive ever seen. Using only skills ( thats what you have to mainly use) i have him over Joshua slighlty and Vitali over him because physically and proven durability combined awkward style of being hard to land on outside. At 19 fights joshua is still progressing though...if they were to fight now at their best and fought 5 times Joshua wins about 2 of them. In a H2H match i would see Tyson as the favorite.

Are my top 3! after the Wlad fight i put him over Lewis bc he showed he can also box outside and stay withan elite jabber. It doesnt matter if you are scared of tyson most top guys werent that he fought...thats a myth...actually many underestimated him bc of his height...the media made it like that not the actual reality though.

 

Actually that's not accurate. There is no inherent "size limit", the problem is the talent pool dwindles the further from mean height you get. People used to think Fury's height was too tall to be coordinated enough. It wasn't, it was just there were so few 6'8 + people around, not enough to compensate for any coordination problems. With an ever expanding world population, and penetration of international markets by boxing, the size of top level hws will probably grow for the foreseeable future as there will be a large enough talent base of taller and taller people to find some with the proper athletic attributes to maximize their size.

I think when population stops increasing and the world interconnectivity maxes out, we'll stop seeing significant progress. I think that's probably at least a few decades off, though.

 

There were some very good fighters in the eighties, and the nineties were absolutely stacked. You also had a lot more rampant drug abuse back then, resulting in some truly freakish athletes, and a far more vigorous Olympic scene feeding in athletes from the bottom up. Today the only really good athletes in the division are AJ, Wlad (old), and Parker. Wilder's a freakshow and Ortiz is like comeback Foreman. Povetkin is well schooled and explosive, but he's no better than a lot of guys from that period, and quite undersized. Pulev is awful, Takam is just a solid tank-like guy (dime a dozen back in the day), Whyte is completely average in every way, Martin can barely throw a punch properly, Breazeale and Washington are just big guys with jabs. Who else out there is really worth mentioning?
