Mike Tyson had a better title reign than Roberto Duran

Heavyweights bar a few get underrated generally in these P4P cross comparisons so it's probably closer than believed.

 

The thread title is specific to title reign.

Not ‘before prison’ or ‘after lunch’ or whatever.

Losing to Buster was part of Tyson’s title reign — the end of it is marked at the exact moment the referee stopped it.

If you want to throw in DeJesus, well, the one he lost wasn’t a title fight (over the weight) and Mike as a heavyweight didn’t really have that option but as a non-title fight I don’t see how it should be included in a discussion of specifically his title reign.

You have some valid points if this were a different topic, but a thing is what it is and not something else — this is a thread about their title reigns.

 

If you’d like to have a contest in pedantry, it could easily be argued that losing a title is not generally considered part of a reign in the same way that winning a title is not. That’s how the OP intended it and this is their thread.

 

The fact that the odds on Tyson were so high shows how strong he was, not how weak Douglas was. Odds are always set for two people, and it also shows how much of a fluke this fight was.
