Mike Tyson has never beaten anybody as good as Povetkin.

Saying they're better is a stretch. They're in a similar class though. I would say Povetkin is definitely better than Bonecrusher and Biggs, unless maybe if it's the best night of Biggs' life or something.

Holmes did more after his comeback with Tyson then Povetkin will do his entire career.

Bruno never beat anybody as good with a proven chin as Povetkin, not in his life.

How do we know this? Povetkin hardly can fight against these guys anymore.

How was Spinks shot?, jackass. A shot inactive Holmes was also better than Povetkin. Ask yourself like the ****** you are, who beat Holmes like Tyson did?. I would also rate Tucker, Smith, Biggs, Berbick, Ruddock and Bruno above Povetkin.

I followed the Tyson era as it happened and I think Povetkin fits in nicely with Tyson's better opponents in Tucker, Berbick, and Ruddock though he doesn't necessarily stand out over them. Tucker was obviously good and would have had more standout wins had he had the opportunity to face more contenders but politics and his own demons kept him from landing big fights. Imagine if he got the Spinks and Foreman fights and pulled off the wins, his resume would be 10x better.

Ruddock like Povetkin was a protected fighter who feasted on cans and faded contenders, Ruddock had more intangibles that people value like size and power but I don't see a huge overall quality gap. Berbick and Povetkin I think are very comparable in what they bring to the ring. Had Povetkin mixed it up as much as Berbick they would have similar records.

Spinks and Holmes are a close call. They are Tyson's best names but their abilites at the time the fights happened are understandably called into question. What I think Tyson did to Spinks was incredible and probably few could repeat such a feat, but Spinks was also semi-retired and giving up his belts to duck challengers like Tucker. It took a truckload of money from King to make him sacrifice himself to Mike. A washed up Spinks may have wanted no part of the dangerous Mike or Tucker but could very be up for a boxing match with Povetkin but I don't know. Holmes went on after the Tyson fight to have a remarkable second career, he could also very well beat Povetkin like he did Mercer. Never know.

Eh, I see people listing every single fighter Tyson faced as better and that just isn't accurate. Not to say Povetkin would probably beat all those guys, he would win some, lose some, but overall, I think it would be clear he is better overall than Tyson's more average or subpar opponents. But in all fairness the claim that Povetkin is clearly better than anybody Tyson beat is just flame bait, so responses like that are expected.
