Could Wlad score an upset?

  1. No, he'd go the same way as Holmes did.

    91.2%
  2. Yes, He'd take Tyson s best, and stop him, scoring a massive upset!

    8.8%

Come on now. We're talking about Tyson during his peak years around the Holmes fight, as per the thread title. The Tyson of 1999 was a badly diminished and faded version. It's like deducing that Roy Jones was clueless against southpaws because of what Calzaghe did to a washed up version of him.

Tyson could be moved around in clinches and often accepted them rather than punching his way out, so Wlad might frustrate him now and then. But we're talking about whether Wlad would have any chance of winning the fight, not simply avoiding taking every shot thrown at him or frustrating Tyson for periods. Guys like Bonecrusher and Thomas managed to interrupt his flow and smother him into inaction now and then, but neither made an impression with the judges or ever looked like winners. The same for Wlad if that's going to be his only tactic, I think.

Ultimately if you're going to beat Tyson you've got to be willing to fight in close, out-tough and him and put punches together in bunches. None of that was in Wladimir's nature (at least not during his best years) and he's got the poorer chin of the pair, too. Just not a fight I see Wladimir winning.

Tyson would end his career. I don't care how short Tyson is. Its a joke to suggest that Wlad would even be competitive here, i mean come on.

Tyson by mauling. Wlad takes the beating Frank Bruno did in their second fight.

the 41yr old wlad of the joshua fight is a lot different to a prime wlad. Tyson of the holmes fight is a lot closer to prime if not actual prime. if you think theres no under 6ft fighter that could beat a more or less finished wlad then your sorrily mistaken. You gonna try tell me that, for example, the joe frazier of FOTC cant beat a finished 41yr old wlad???? seriously??

as for using AJ as some kinda gauge of how an almost middle aged man who was clearly past his best, fares against a 22yr old killer who was practicably better in every possible way . Please, its not even debatable.

A shot, rusty, Tyson who hadn't fought in nearly 2 years knocked out Botha in less than five rounds. I wouldn't really call that "all kinds of trouble".

Also, It's pretty disingenuous using that version of Tyson to make an argument for Klitschko.

Tyson would've beaten a prime Wladimir, let alone this version.

wlad was one of my favorite fighters for many years

i think joshua punching himself out flattered wlad a little. Wlad looked as gun shy as he did vs fury in the first 4 rounds and then was nearly stopped in the 5th. joshua i think realized he could blitz wlad when ever he opened up but it took him a few rounds to recharge his batteries and mount a comeback

i would expect tyson at his best to beat that version of wlad

I don’t think any version of Wlad could beat prime Tyson.

More skilled and he'd beat him H2H , but Joshua has a higher Ring IQ and a better ability to adapt than Tyson. So i would say he was more skilled , but not by much.

The Tyson of the Holmes fight is certain to slink any version of Wlad into a slumber within 4 rounds max. That fight is a mismatch.

It's pretty disingenuous of you to ignore the context of my post.
