In a recent interview: "Right now its been very difficult because Ive been all around the world and its very difficult to be hands on, I want to be hands on. Listen, Im the promoter but I really want to be a trainer, you know. I guess, to really be honest with you to get this promotion really rolling I had to wear a promoters hat. But I want to train, because the trainers not going to get the recognition as the promoter but this is where I want to be." A short but interesting interview with Mike. He talks about getting into promotion and training, working with fighters, Teddy Atlas, Floyd Mayweather, unionizing boxers, making promotions more entertaining, his book and other topics. http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/interview-mike-tyson-233633
A pupil of Cus ,the knowledge he has could be a decent trainer but he has to start from scratch. Could. Take him years ..
It could for sure, but I don't know. Mike is a boxing historian, and a boxing genius, as well as, of course, an ATG himself. I think it would come to him naturally.
He certainly has the knowledge base to be a trainer, but I think he'll probably be better with younger fighters in the beginning. Cus' system requires complete buy-in from the student and I'm not so sure that established fighters will be able or willing to re-learn everything from scratch.
Would build his legacy if he gave back a lil opened his own gym and trained kids that were in a similar situation to him.
