That's basically spot on. They're will be donuts who will say i am only saying this because Lewis is in my avvy, but at the end of the day if these fanatical fanboys take those hate filled glasses off for a second, they would see that Lewis owed Vitali nothing. On the contrary.
He gave Vitali's career a bigger boost than he could ever have hoped for if he didn't fight Lewis.
He had his chance to take the torch from a faded, semi-retired champion in Lewis, and couldn't get the job done. Simple.
He kept his eyesight intact and his name became bigger because he shared a ring and competed well with Lennox (albeit the worst version), so Lewis owed Vitali nada.
Vitali should be grateful to Lennox (and i think he is) for giving him the chance to compete at that rarified level at least once in his life.

Because for 4 rounds, Lewis had no legs. His balance and footwork was atrocious and that's the sign of a shot fighter. There's a huge chance he'd have been shot by the time of a rematch.


So if you're saying a shot Lewis didn't want to fight a prime Vitali, then I'd probably agree. It's the only way Kewis could lose to Vitali though, so Lewis probably didn't want to go out on a loss to someone who he beat when he was old and a prime version would have been battered by Lewis. Fighters have pride. Losing to an inferior fighter like Vitali because he was shot, would had hurt his pride.

It's not their fault they're in an era where they can hold it down on a complete lock down without rising stars making a mark in the sport. David Haye has made somewhat of a mark, and it'll be a career-defining fight for both Haye and Wladimir, Vitali is not so fortunate, his career defining fight was against Lewis, and that opportunity never came again.

 

They may be missed in Russia, but the rest of the world would rather there be no heavyweight division versus watching a couple of Russian steroid "Dracos" lumber around the ring showcasing their only real true advantages; their height and their size. :tired
