Once Tyson's early onslaught fades and Ali begins to land clean punches Mike gives up mentally and get's stopped late.

Ali, stamina and chin pulls him through. Tyson , will have his moments in the early rounds. But, Ali, jab and movement will be Tyson's downfall. Ali, late round stoppage 11th or 12rd.

Depends how successful he was in those early rounds (not to mention whether his opponents survive them). Have you seen many fights in which prime Tyson hurt an opponent early and then struggled to survive the rest of the fight?

As I said Tyson had the ability to hurt or knock out opponents early but if an opponent survives the first 5 rounds then Tyson's is less likely to stop his opponent. I don't remember Tyson ever looking great in the second half of a fight. Against someone of the calibre of Ali I feel a knockout is unlikely so Ali will outpoint Tyson after the first few rounds.

Do you recall many fighters figuring him out after the first 5 rounds? Did prime Tyson fade noticeably after the first 5 rounds in any particular fights? I know this is the conventional wisdom in some circles but I want to know what fights folks have in mind when they assess Tyson's tendencies. I guess I'm just not sure that I agree that an opponent who survives the first 5 rounds against prime Tyson while sustaining damage necessarily pulls away from him en route to an easy decision.

Tyson is too perfect for Ali on the mental side of the boxing game, and that would translate to an embarrassing loss for him on the physical side of it all. Just imagine the press conference and weigh ins with Ali making fun of his voice, haircut, calling him ugly, calling him a midget, he would have Tyson crying!!!:|:|

Along with that the jab, chin, reach, movement, and speed of Ali would all be too much for Ali. I don't think there is another heavyweight champion from the modern era that was so made to order for Ali. Jim Jeffries might be but he competed 100 years ago!!!:happy:bbb

Tyson was better, and punched faster, and so much harder. Ali is all legend.

The legend was earned not given. Twice Ali overcame the biggest and the baddest when they invincible. Tyson cleared the landscape of a generation of heavyweights that showd promise but most often under achieved and couldn't hold a candle to Ali.

A lot of Tysons fight finished before the 5th. When he couldnt get the KO he boxed intelligently, reserving his energy for te distance.

No he trained himself to take a punch better because he knew
he lost his foot speed..I will copy and paste a couple things
if you like more i will dig it up

" Before the layoff, he wouldn’t let anyone touch him in the gym.
Workouts consisted of Ali running and saying, ‘This guy can’t hit me.
’ But afterward, when he couldn’t run that way anymore, he
found he could dog it. He could run for a round and rest for a
round, and let himself get punched against the ropes

"I don’t train like other boxers. For instance, I let my
sparring partners try to beat up on me about eighty percent
of the time. I go on the defense and take a couple of hits to
the head and the body, which is good: You gotta condition your
body and brain to take those shots, ’cause you’re gonna get hit
hard a couple of times in every fight."

He was desensitizing himself Before Dundee was his
trainer his backers recruited Archie Moore who tried to teach
him how to block punches ,cause Moore told when he got older and lost his speed he would need to know this .But he told Moore that he was gonna make a million dollars and retire at 25 so he didn't need to bother, when no one could lay a glove on him .But he left Moore soon after cause in Moore's camp everyone pitched in, cleaning up, doing dishes etc Ali refused..
He hated being dictated to ..Only Dundee who knew his place Ali
kept around in spite of all the black muslims and their belief that
white people were the devil.. Cause Dundee never dictated
Dundee knew if he told Ali to do this or that Ali would refuse ,so Dundee would say
"Man when you did that it was amazing" Ali be like "What do you mean?
Dundee "That move where you did this and that ,it was genius"
Then Ali would do it cause he thought it was his idea..
Best way to get someone to do something you want them to is make them think it's their idea

i can dig up more documentation if you like

Tyson feasted on Ali clones his whole life, ams and pros. Cus taught him the tricks of the trade, and knowing that all the Ali clones were dominating the heavyweight scene Cus knew the perfect foil to this style. And Tyson fit that mold.

Each fighter could exploit the others' weaknesses. I just don't think Ali had the firepower to keep Mike off him. He'd tie Mike up on the inside but can he do this the entire fight without being taxed himself? I don't know.

    There were no "Ali clones".
Ali was one of a kind.
