I remember this fight being a big deal, all my buddies dads who fancied themselves boxing experts thought Mike would win. A fight in 96/97 between them would have been intriguing, but I'd still favor Lewis to take a decision at that point. Lewis was a bit disrespected in his own era imo, he didn't get the credit he deserved.

    Mike had no chance here

Still took Lewis 8 rounds to take out this Mike Tyson who only had a couple of rounds in him and didn't care about boxing

It's fact for sure and was extremely well documented back in the day.

Steward didn't get a hold of Hearns he had him from day 1.

In the amateurs Hearns won 155 fights yet only had depending on where you pluck from, 7, 11 or 12 stoppages. He was a slapper as proven by his record. You can also see him on film in the amateurs and he's a totally different fighter, getting next to no weight on his punches at all.

As he headed toward turning pro Steward knew he was going to need power to succeed and started to work on power. He taught him how to get maximum leverage, how to "lock up" on punches, better balance and weight distribution and other little Kronk power secrets. The change in Hearns was literally incredible as Hearns knocked out his first 13 pro opponents inside the amateur distance.
