It always makes me laugh when some people talk of this bout as one of Mike Tyson's defining fights ! Tyson had nothing to beat :huh Holmes was 38 years old, rusty as hell and undertrained.

    XPERT-post Stevie m8!! :thumbsup Your a true G. :smoke

After v.nearly 2 years of RETIREMENT, Old Homer only had 3 Months to train. :-(

"Jelly" Lazza (literally jelly) entered training camp in October 1987 @260LBS. :verysad

3 Months later in Jan of 1988 Old Homer weighs in @225LBS to be SACRIFICED to Tinkerbell Tyson at teh HEAVIEST weight of his whole 50 fight career!! :patsch

Holmes must have been out of his mind. He should have had a tune up or two.

Every time I watch that fight it just spells out to me that a prime Tyson just wouldn't deal with Ali. Wouldn't crack Alis iron chin, eat jabs all night, gas out and probably get stopped late.

    Probably.

But do you see even a prime Holmes avoiding that avalanche of a right hand (which he was always prone to get hit with)? I know what's coming...

Shavers and Tyson aren't in the same stratosphere where finishing ability is concerned. Or fighting in general, for that matter.
