Conn did well as a technical boxer who was quick and light on his feet. His strategy combined with his physical assets is why he did so well against the great Louis, who was much slower on his feet. Compared to Louis, Tyson is much quicker on his feet, and harder to hit due to his general peekabo style and bobbing and weaving. While Louis may have been the more skilled combo puncher, Tyson had more one-punch power and was no slacker in the setting up and combo department either. If Conn plays his best game of staying on the move he survives a few rounds but Tyson catches up by four with the KO

Interesting. As great a puncher as Tyson was, I think there have been a larger number of HW's more accurate than Tyson than HW's with more power than Tyson. That being said, I agree his power accuracy combo is hard to bear

The problem with Conn here is unlike Louis, Tyson wouldn't give him the room to work.
Though offensively I believe Louis was Slightly better overall than Tyson, and was slightly less predictable, Tyson was much more likely to simply overwhelm Conn.
Conn doesn't get thru 4rds against prime Tyson.
Again, it's the aggression or "style" of Tyson that does the trick here.
But if Louis was as focused and determined as he was against Schmeling in their 2nd fight.
Conn wouldn't get past 4-5rds against Louis on that night either.

Tyson by first round KO, Marvis Frazier style. If it actually lasted longer than that, it's because Mike decided to toy with his prey before devouring.

I think Conn might do better than people think. I reckon there's a fair chance that he sees the 5th.

Mike Tyson's style is poisonous for Billy Conn. I would guess Mike Tyson wins by knockout, before the fifth round.

Tyson was the better combo puncher. Louis faced bums, thus he looked better than he actually was. Put him against modern ATG boxers (post 1960s, Liston being the exception), and he gets obliterated.

I think that you are correct, Billy Conn might last a little longer than Frightened Michael Spinks in June 1988, but Mike Tyson does put an end to Conn rather early.

I have at least 5 boxers ahead of Mike in terms of 1 punch power (Wilder, Wlad, Lewis, Bruno, Foreman, Liston etc), and perhaps there are also boxers with better accuracy (although I don't think so), but nobody tops him when it comes to the combination of power + accuracy.

Same observations as I made in the Liston Conn thread.

It is far more reasonable to think that Conn had the right style to give Louis trouble, than it is to think that he gives every all time great the same issues.
