TBH, I've never seen a more skilled HW on film than a prime Mike Tyson, the hype was real.

Vastly over rated by the general public. You know for a fact one is way over rated when every single time one speaks of him they have to preface with "prime tyson"

I read ridiculous cheap on here daily about how prime tyson would ko_insert name in 2 rounds. He isn't ko'ing ANYONE that's half legit in 2 rounds..

Tyson, for sure, had great talent for a tiny hw, top 10 all time talents but he lost all these "prime" years so many claim was the best ever.

Top 20/25 hw (taking into account those "lost PRI.E" years.
H2h he's not close to being in the top 20, just too small and too mentally fragile

When Trainers are saying hes that good not just fans and at that time that is what trainers where saying about mike and even Ex Legends were saying this then its not hype. Just because 10 % of the plublic that dont like him say hes overated, then they are wrong.

Its like the movie the Dark Knight 90& of the plublic says its a great Crime drama and the best Super Hero movie ever made and Heath Leger was great and whon an Oscar for the Joker.

Then you have 10% of the plublic saying its overrated and was not that goog of a movie ans say Heath was overrated. Jack was better.

I belive my own eyes and the 90% of the audience and Movie Critics and knowledge and tast in movies that The Dark Knight was not overrated and Heath was Bad ass as the Joker.

Just like i Believe the Boxing experts and Trainers and Ex Champions and my knowledge of Boxing. That Mike was the real deal and was not overrated.

'Tyson, he's awesome,'' said Jake LaMotta, the former middleweight champion. ''He'll be the greatest heavyweight of all time. He's a big strong Rocky Marciano. He should knock Spinks out very quick. It all depends on how Spinks elects to fight. If he tries to fight, he'll be knocked out quick. If not, even if he tries to dance and stay out of the way, Tyson will still catch up with him before the 10th round.''

Yes bc we rate guys at their lowest points? Well i could tell how you post so i know you come from bizarro world too( no offense) many on here do.

Holyfield was known to be taking steroids and Tyson even demanded a test but never got one but went through with the fight anyway which got too him even more ,stunning Holyfield early anyway with an uppercut( prime Mike takes him out and bc Holyfield was a person less then) ,not to mention being high during the Lewis fight? ..But we'll still count that ( again Bizarro world) where you reside .Of course Holyfield gets busted a few years later by the feds for steroids but we'll pretend that didnt happen anyway right?

Bruno and clumsey Razor both who stood about 6'3 and 230/240 would comatose all your fictional fighters you think would beat them...and i say fictional bc again in ( Bizarro world) everything is opposite to what reality actually is. Razor was so clumsey Larry Holmes wanted him as a sparring partner and eventually fired him bc he couldnt handle him in some sessions?????? :wave1:

    Vastly under rated.
He is 5ft 10 he was always the smaller man,he didn't get found out by Douglas,he regressed dramatically because his life was a mess.his speed power combinations reflexes and defended coming forward where amazing.on top of that he was smashing up fighters in their physical peak when he was a kid.say what you want about his opposition.no 19/20 year old will ever do what he did at heavyweight.he became flat footed, the head movement went and he just became a slugger reliant on his power which isn't what got him to the top

Joe Frazer is a top 10 heavyweight fighter who beat ali in his prime that can't be overlooked and george foreman beat him and personally believe if George foreman got a rematch vs ali he would of beaten him too because the Same tactic wouldn't work twice

I think prison caused Tyson to be over and under rated, we never really got the true story of what he was as a fighter. So some people make it up depending on their agenda, bully that couldn’t deal with adversity or the invincible heavyweight no one could beat. As always in these cases, I think its somewhere between, it’s not the extreme in either direction.

To look at it objectively I don’t believe he was a bully, there is a lot of evidence to counter this theory that is usually pushed by those that like to criticise Tyson. Where you have footage of him getting pounded on by Ruddock and Douglas and still trying to win the fight I don’t believe the bully card can be pulled. By the same token I don’t think prime Tyson was unbeatable, he could be out boxed and taken out of his rhythm but it took one hell of a performance.

I think in a sense he was an on top fighter, but a great one. I think it would take a lot to get prime Tyson in a position where he was on the back foot running out of ideas, because his physical gifts were immense, you have to get past that power, speed and agility first.

I believe he wasn’t fully prepared for Douglas but I think what we did see was a Tyson with no ideas left, he kept going, fought with heart but couldn’t get a foot hold on the fight. I think guys like Ali and Lewis may put prime Rooney trained Tyson in that position.

But the proof is there that he was no easy win, say what you will about his competition but a guy that walks through a division with a fair amount of ease is not going to be easy to beat. He was extremely disciplined and motivated. Stuff like Foreman blasting Tyson out in 2 theory is a bit silly. You can say there is evidence Tyson can lose, but you’re making up stories when discussing iron chinned Tyson getting knocked out cold in two rounds. Some look at the real life evidence to discredit Tyson, but a lot of the time they ignore the positives.

Tyson’s mentality plays a part, his self-destructive personality obviously caused us not to see his real potential. You can’t really separate that, he put himself in those circumstances and he let his own ego shorten his prime. As a fan of Tyson’s I am happy to admit some fighters would have his number but he has to be in the top 5 exciting champs of all time pound for pound, even if he wasn’t the best.

Agree with both. He was a beast with a capitol B in his prime but not the unbeatable monster many will have you believe - millions literally believed he was unbeatable (I was one of them back then too) but obviously no fighter is unbeatable. But at his best he was a force of nature and a sight to behold.

Most people rate him 6-10, I have him on my 7-9 tier wit Frazier and Holyfield. To rate him top 5 is difficult and likely swayed by perceived H2H ability or fandom. To rate him outside of the top 10 disregards his dominance as well as longevity as a top notch competitor. Outside of the top 12 is not to be taken seriously nor is top 3

In his prime, he was untouchable. Even when he was 16/17 years old he was mashing up 25 year olds in sparring.
