Not much in it and i'm not sure who I prefer on film, both belong in the same tier.

    Sonny looks better on film?

    Nah.

Tyson is the 'looks great on film' King.

I reckon Liston would find more trouble with Tyson's opposition than would Mike with Liston's, whom he outweight frequently by generous margins. Same for Johnson, Dempsey, Louis and Marciano. Granted, Louis is exceptionally better than every other one of those guys and far 'greater' than Tyson.

Both grade A on film. It's like splitting hairs trying to separate them.

Tyson wouldn't have lost to marshall. He'd have shared liston's success up until the ali loss.

Liston wouldn't have lost to douglas. Impossible to say how he'd have done after a 4 year break.

More dominant than Marciano? Marciano cleaned out the division and beat all there was to beat in about a total of 2 years he could've stuck around beating nobodies into next week extending his unbeaten record but what would've been the point? I'd say they're about even. In regards to ranking that depends on your criteria whether you rank how they did in their respective era's against the avaliable competition which i do, then i rank Marciano higher but i agree with everythign else :good

He was more dominant in his performances than Rocky, more defenses.

I touched on the more defenses part like i said he could've stuck around beating bums but what would've been the point? esp. considering his relationship with his manager and back injury etc. Is Tyson more dominant in fights? Absolutley. More consisent? No.

In terms of clearing up a division, tyson and rocky are up there with louis and ali in that respect.

Both cleared up, both ruled for 4 years. Tyson dominated his opponents whereas rocky had to war with them and break them down. Film shines tyson in a much better light imo.

Tyson also defended his title more against ranked contenders than rocky did.

Both only missed 1 name each imo, tim spoon and nino vales.

Of course Tyson looks better on film but they each had their own respective styles that worked for them, for instance Monzon doesn't look at all like he's 'dominanting' most of his opponents, he was abit slow and methodical whereas SRR looked alot better, more dynamic more powerful etc. Film shines Ray in a better light but i'd rank Monzon higher (at MW). How they fight is how they fight. For the record i think Tyson would beat Spoon and Rock would beat Valdez :good

How about we analyse their defence, who has the better defence? Liston doesn't look too hard to hit at all, it's a bit of a weakness. He's also nowhere near as quick Tyson

Liston never beat anyone comparable to Douglas, the closest stylistic opponent to Douglas is Ali

Tyson has atg defence, no doubt. Both still look grade a in their peak performance.

Douglas never beat anyone comparable to liston either. Call it a hunch that sonny beats buster.

Luf, is it just me or have you taken on a greater appreciation for Tyson in recent weeks?

I've changed my criteria which has seen my ranking of tyson shoot up.

My opinion on the importance of lineal titles when assessing a man's career is at an all time low. Tyson was number 1 for 4 years and again 6 years later with 10 defences in total, not many can rival that.

As well as that I put a big weight on how good a man looks in his peak performance. Tyson on film is sensational. Top tier not just in his division but p4p.

Ironically my h2h ranking of tyson has actually decreased over the last few weeks but overall, yes I appreciate him much more based on my new criteria.

Same here, i watched the second fight again.

Minus the bites, that fight was beginning to look interesting.

After the bites, tyson did seem much more aggressive, he came ALIVE. I think the fear of humiliation and getting his ass kicked actually awoke him. Shame the fight was stopped.
