You lot are bringing back memories. The mate and i watched the Berbick fight on the edge of our seats pondering whether this guy was indeed the full meal deal.
At the time it might seem relevant but over time it doesn't. Take charles, langford, duran and robinson. All locks for the top ten and noone considers the past prime losses.
I think you can say that for quite a lot of fighters. Calzaghe PAcman Wladmir Klitscko Vitali Klitscko to name but a few
Hes right, Calzaghes best win is........a split decision against Bhop? And a 12 round humiliation of Roy Jones, who got parked in the 1st round in his next fight against Green?
I agree. Prior to winning the title, I honestly thought maybe Mike struggling with Tillis and Mitch Green showed he just knocked out weak chinned guys and cruiserweights like Marvis Frazier. I thought maybe Berbick would be strong and be able to win and Mike stopped him easily in two. Surprised me. By the end of 1987 I thought Mike is for real, and by the Spinks fight we all knew he was special quality. Mike was anything but overhyped like the TS suggested. The only thing which happened to Mike was he could not fight to his best for too long. He only lasted really 3 years on top with his defense. But the Mike of 1988 would be very hard to beat for any fighter in history, even the Klitchkos who are benefitted by being huge heavyweights. By 1991 Mike became an exciting hard puncher who took more punches but usually won the fights. My 1996 he was taking as much as he gave, but he still would win. He really was not a big heavyweight. It is amazing how easily he beat some big guys. I always thought the one guy he would have had big trouble with in his prime was Tim Witherspoon.
how many Rounds did you score to Tillis And ***** Green? I awarded 6/10 Rounds to Tillis And 4/10 Rounds to Green. :bbb Foreman Hooooooooooooooooooook!:smoke
That was a long time ago, but I remember thinking Mike lost maybe 2 rounds to Tillis and 3 to Green maybe. He won the fights on points, but he struggled and his power was not as evident. Tyson did look dominant against Jesse Ferguson. Those were great years. ABC had fights many Saturdays likes the Weaver vs. Bonecrusher fight. Williams vs. Weaver. Good fights.
Mmmmm i reckoned Tillis did way better than Green, But each to his own m8. Yes there was good boxing on tv back then And it was not ******* PPV (which destroyed viewing figures 10 fold).
