No, it wasn't. Tyson post-Rooney was not the same as the early Tyson. He was nowhere near as technically skilled or intelligent a fighter in the years following Rooney's departure and King's men taking over. He became a head-hunting brawler/puncher, not the disciplined, technical juggernaut he was in his early days. And answer my other post.
He was in his prime but he was heading downhill. Plus he came in unprepared, overconfident and he wasn't training. And Frazier isnt Buster Douglas -- those are two completely different styles. And stop with the "Tyson loses when the other guy fights back" nonsense. Frazier, stylistically, as others have said, plays right into Tyson's hands, by coming forward and brawling. Tyson is stronger, quicker and hits way harder -- he has basically all the advantages. Essentially, Tyson would do to Joe what he did to his son Marvis.
I had to give this one to Tyson, this would be a great fight for as long as it lasted. They would go toe to toe but Tyson I think scores a Ko in this one. Joe might rock Mike and hold his own for a bit, but Tyson was faster, hit harder and had the better chin. The only chance for Joe was if the fight went to the late rounds then I would give him a chance, but my pick is Tyson KO 3..
i think tysons bobbing and speed provides a ko...no way this fight goes the distance on either side of a ko
I don't see Frazier's come forward, all out, relentless style faring well against a similar fighter in Tyson, who holds advantages in size, physical strength, hand speed, punch variety, and punching power. I see Frazier starting slow, but coming forward, and Tyson landing heavy shots to Frazier's body and finishing off those combinations upstairs. After some flush uppercuts and left hooks, Frazier goes down, the pattern repeats itself several more times, before the referee calls a halt to the contest. If Frazier could somehow survive the early onslaught, dig into Tyson's ribcage, and discourage him, he would have a chance if the fight went late. Tyson TKO under 5
With the benefit of hindsight, we can say that Tyson would never have lost a fight if he had done what Cus D'Amato taught him to do. History shows that he didn't do it. When a man is so easily distracted almost anything can happen to him.
I think Tyson in his prime would have ko'd Frazier, as someone has already stated here his head movement, speed and power would have been a huge advantage against Frasier who was quite one dimensional. I do think Tyson had a bully mentality though and even though he was on the slide against Douglas when he lost I think at some point in his career even with D'amto in charge he would've lost against opponents who stood up to him. I've read a number of accounts in the past of Tyson having a true lack of self belief when things got tough in the ring when he was taken to his limits, like an inferiority complex, he doubted his ability which makes me wonder how he would have got on against the elite heavies who could take a huge punch as well as give it out.
Tyson KO... I think its under-rating Tyson to say that if someone wasn't scared of him and threw back, he'd lose. Yes, the times he did lose this was the case. But to say that all the times he won the guys were too scared to throw back, is a lie. Tyson is still an ATG heavy, whether or not he is amongst the top 10 or not. H2H, he's even better, imo.
Tyson crushes him IMO Tyson is BIGGER Tyson is FASTER Tyson is just as powerful if not more so Tyson was just as ferocious if not more so Tyson at his best has enough stamina Tyson at his best loves a tough fight People look at the buster fight and say well when people stand up to him he crumbles.... bullcrap.
