He's certainly got the temperament of Duran, the pre and post anger in the ring before and after certain fights. Tyson actually said that he was more alike to Duran, than say Ali If Tyson had been a lightweight, he'd have probably smacked Ken in the nuts too! Lol I'm just musing here.
I mean I can see some similarities in that they both grew up poor with no father. would blow a lot of money and lose motivation. But that's tons of fighters. but their careers are pretty different. If Tyson has beaten Douglas in an immediate rematch, beaten holyfield, gone the distance in a close classic with lewis, and then still fought for another 10+ years, then he'd remind me of Duran.
I know what your saying, like I said, I'm just musing, if that's the word lol. Just certain things that could be similar. I can imagine an heavyweight Duran saying he'd punch the bone in to the brain.
One big difference is that Duran was very strong in the clinches, remember he'd often maul his opponent. Where as clinching was one of Tyson's biggest weaknesses.
They both quit in big fights, although Tyson was more creative in how we went about it with the ear bites to get DQ’d.
If I'm not mistaken I could've thought Tyson said Duran was his favourite. Would b fun to see each other geek over their big performances. In a similar format to Cus/Ali but way more friendly.
Yep your right, bud. Tyson wasn't effective as you say in clinches. That's why the Smith fight was so horrible to watch.
It's also another reason he lost to Holyfield, as he able to nullify Tyson on the inside. That is one of Tyson's biggest weaknesses IMO.
Definitely, if he'd being able to work the inside he'd have been even more deadly, maybe one of the best.
If Tyson was better inside say like a Frazier he would have been terrific. He'd be able to wear down his opponents instead of always going for the home runs.
