Terrible resume? Compared to whom? I mean, it's certainly not the best HW resume ever, but it clearly ain't the worst, either.

He fought everyone worth fighting between 1986-89. All you can ask of any boxer is to consistently face the best available opposition of his day. Tyson did that, and with great success.

I don't disagree with the post-Spinks points. I've actually gone on record expressing a similar sentiment in my Tokyo Douglas video.

But that 2nd Bruno fight. If you watch those fights he had during 1995-96 in succession, Bruno II was the only one where he looked sharp, hungry, and well prepared.

I get what you're saying, however. I had somewhat of an inner struggle deciding between Bruno II, Pinklon, and Ruddock. I ultimately went with Bruno II because that one did make him a legit 2x champion under modern considerations. Pinklon was the one I wanted to include, so I'm fond of you having him in your top 3.

One of his really early fights, I think it was his 3rd bout against Halpin - Tyson seemed like he was just doing drills and trying things out, and he was frequently switching to southpaw in that one. Or one of his early fights, but I think that was the one. But yeah, this was something he used to do more often when he was younger. He usually didn't stay southpaw for long stretches, and he switched between stances so seamlessly that it was easy to miss/overlook.

Bear in mind that Kid Dynamite idolized the Manassa Mauler, who pioneered the "shift" technique (alternating orthodox to southpaw midstride while applying constant forward pressure) revived most notably in recent years by GGG.

Tucker was far better fighter than Biggs,Berbick and Thomas. This win is a top3 win by Tyson.
The Top5 performances is another question.

Tyson's Bruno wins were much more impressive than Lewis' success against Bruno.
I think Bruno's chin was better than Lewis'. Otherwise the Tyson kos didn't prove Bruno's poor chin.

The problem was the HW's he fought during his absolute prime weren't considered top tier guys historically. There were better fighter in the 90's, heck even the 2000's and obviously the 70's.

His biggest wins during his Iron Mike days were probably against a washed up Larry Holmes who came out of retirement for a payday and a small Spinks coming up in weight. It's not Mike's fault, he could only fight the guys that were available at the time for him to face, but he definitely didn't go through a murderer's row in his prime.

I thought his fights with Razor Ruddock were really good in the early 90's, but Mike wasn't really in his killer prime by than anymore.

Jumbo Cummins couldn`t have hurt Lewis and Bruno couldn`t taken all the punches Lewis took from Mercer, Tyson looked crap v Bruno in both fights, he was never the same when Rooney left his camp and Lewis improved vastly under Steward, he was on another level to Bruno and had far better stamina.

For me Tysons best wins are:

    Berbick
    Tucker
    Holmes
    Spinks
    Pinklon
    Tubbs
    Smith
    Ruddock
    Biggs
    Williams
    Bruno
I put more then 5 because I think these were significant wins. Plus his prime and peak came and went so fast that he’s always going to be one of those What If guys. Plus he doesn’t really have any elite prime fighters who weren’t either too old or too small in his resume . The thing about Tyson was his aura, he created an aura, his story and he could sell himself better then anyone since Ali.

I like this list. The Thomas win is a hard one to rank and often gets overlooked. Tyson did have to make adjustments in that fight aftet a brutal 1st round as Thomas was finding success tying mike up.

However, like a lot of 80s heavyweights Pinklon was up and down due to drugs. He was already a heroin addict and im not sure what his addiction level was at going into the Tyson fight. It was amazing Pinklon survived tht first round.

I would of gone with one of the Ruddock wins, probably the second one. Tyson had a slugfest with Ruddock and then when there was controversy had a rematch with Ruddock 3 months later and brutalized him. At the time Ruddock was considered one of the mot dangerous guys in the division.

Spinks, Berbick, Holmes, Tucker and Ruddock for me are his best wins, but like you say in the video, some of these sre close.
