This content is protected 30 Years since their first fight 02-25-1989. Could the same outcome happen when Wilder eventually faces AJ whose built similar to Bruno?
AJ is far better than Bruno and 2-3 inches taller, AJ would have beaten the Rooneyless Tyson that fought Frank but a prime Mike was far more aggressive than Wilder is and far harde to hit, Wilder doesn`t fight anything like Mike.
Wilder doesn't fight like Tyson, but he's got about the same power as him. AJ is also stiff like Bruno. I could see a lot of disappointed Brits if Wilder fought AJ, just like when Tyson fought Bruno.
I remember this fight, I was only a kid went it happened but still set my alarm to wake me up at something like 4am to listen to the fight on the radio. Lol at comparing Joshua to Bruno and Wilder is nothing like Tyson. If Wilder's handlers ever get the courage to match Wilder up vs Joshua, Wilder is going to get crushed with shocking ease. It's going to be like Lewis/Grant.
Maybe not the Tyson from the Spinks fight but would he do any worse than Frank against a pre-Steward Lewis, Witherspoon or Smith also Jumbo Cummings had Bruno in more trouble the Dillian did when he hit AJ flush with a hook. Bruno would never have got off the floor to beat Wlad, no way.
AJ`s more skilled than Frank has better combo`s and a better body attack, Wilder will far more hesitant v AJ than Tyson was v Bruno, Fury hurt Wilder in teir last round and AJ hits far harder than Fury does.
It was a big night for British fans watching and listening, Bruno rocked Tyson in the first round but couldn't follow it up, Tyson managed it weather the storm and stop him in the 5th
I was a student but couldn't listen to it on the radio as I was up at 8am to work in a garage on Sunday. I remember the boy who ran it coming in and telling me Bruno got knocked out. Watched the delayed broadcast later that day. Bruno came back to a heroes welcome for lasting 5 rounds and wobbling Mike for half a second. I remember him going on the Wogan show and getting clapped like he'd won. Brits love a game loser.
I watched it & remember it well. Iron Mike was coming back after the longest layoff of his professional career (up until that time) having broken his hand in a street fight with Mitch "Blood" Green after he went "undisputed" by beating lineal champ Michael Spinks in 91-seconds in June of the previous year. The fight was significant b/c it marked the first time Mike Tyson appeared beatable as h/w champ. Bruno wasn't the guy to do it but he hit Tyson with a lot of punches he never would have been hit with previously. Tyson's next fight was against Carl "The Truth" Williams which lasted 93-seconds. The one after that was Buster Douglas.
