However, I cannot agre with the logic that says "Tyson blew out Spinks therfore Tyson blows out any former light heavyweight".

I realy dont think it works that way.

 

Tunney never makes it out of the 1st..Tyson doesnt just hurt him he hurts him permanently....Tunney is waaaaaaaaaaaaay outclassed here..

Tunney was never stopped, and could clearly get on his bicycle when he wanted to, so there is absolutely no justification for predicting that he would be stopped in one round.

 

That is just wrong- and you aren't often wrong. Tunney's jab, along with the louis jab were long considered the elite of the division, until Ali made the 'jab' a slap and not a punch.
Tunney setting down and timing a right hand is like a Douglas jab? Come on now...Tunney was never considered a weak fighter; cautious and thoughtful, yes. Weak?No.
If anybody is weak, it is the mental state of tyson. He got frustrated in every fight where he met resistance, and he would be resisted in this fight. And the second he showed mental weakness, Tunney would get stronger.
I don't know who would win. Tyson could blow him out., but I guarantee you that Tunney would not freeze like Spinks, and that he would fight and make Tyson fight.

But he also never fought a big puncher. Now he's supposed to survive (maybe even triumph??) over one of the fastest and most devastating hitters in history? That's a hard sell for me. And Tunney was not very hard to hit at all, so he's getting nailed clean and often. Not a good thing.

From where I stand, that bicycle would lose its wheels pretty quickly after a few Tyson body shots:smoke.

 

Against smaller guys(always his preferred opponents) or guys his size? No, he wasn't weak. Against a fast, furious and powerful heavyweight like Mike Tyson who outweighs him by 30 pounds and is out for blood? Tunney is going to look pretty weak in comparison. I can't see anything but Tunney getting overpowered quickly.

I dont know Tillis went the full route with Tyson by moving, Gene had better hands than Quick and moved quite well

 

1st round knockout. I don't see any other result. Bicycle or not, he's getting caught and caught much harder than he'd ever been hit, including that knockdown from Dempsey. And he's not getting up from that.

 

People are being way to cavalier with their predictions here.

A first round knockout at world level is pretty much an aberration when it happens, and usually involves factors such as stylistic advantage, intimidation and outright fluke.

Any time that anybody here wants to predict a first round knockout in a fight that is actually going to happen, please start a thread on it, of PM me, because I will be very interested to see this.

There is precious little to deal with.

 

We have seen the knockdown of Tunney, Tyson unquestionably hit harder than Dempsey. Tunney's defense was only decent. His footwork has been average and running was an unusual thing for him to do, he's no Willie Pep or Cassius Clay to be able to run. He doesn't know how to hold, when in close he's punching to the body. Big mistake. And overall, he's too small, not strong or fast enough (Tyson had quicker hands). He'd lose in the 1st round in 9 out of 10 fights with prime Tyson.
