I'd put more money on it that Tyson wouldn't have survived the punishment Frazier received in the FOTC and The Thriller In The Manilla. Tyson is good at taking single shots but he goes to pieces when someone starts to land regularly on him.
I respectfully disagree. His stoppage loss to Douglass happened to occur after a combo, same thing with TKO loss to Holy. However Tyson endured severe punishment in those fights prior to the stoppage. At 6 foot 4 230? Douglass packed a good punch and Tyson ate countless jabs. He ate 5 headbutts at least in the Holy fight. Dont get me started on the beating he endured in Lewis. But yes this is Foreman whose power is in a different league then the aforementioned fighters. Lyle took Foreman's best shots a bunch of combos, I believe Mike could eat them as well. Lets not forget Mike can drop and hurt Foreman as well. I like Azzer's comment either Foreman gets Berbicked, or Tyson gets Fraziered. Interesting question since this is hypothetical, if Cus was alive would he let the fight happen? Could a peak Mike make adjustments. Deceptive speed on Foreman's part.
With respect. Go back to school. Tyson would rightly be the underdog, and within 30 seconds the whole world of boxing fans would understand exactly why. Foreman 73 - 74 toys with someone as inherently useless ( mentally ) as Tyson. The fight would have been won in the introductions. Tyson would have messed his shorts when the other goon, just stared at him. If anyone is stupid enough to believe Tyson was the only fighter that intimidated his foes with his cold, blank stare, they are obviously too young to have seen Foreman's impression of a Rottweiler.
Tyson would embarrass George. Prime George had no defense or stamina. Old Foreman would at least lose respectably.
Classic Forum has taught me that Marciano beats Foreman, but Tyson gets destroyed by him. The more you know.
There wasn't a Tyson equivalent that he fought. Frazier had nowhere near the two-handed attack and hand speed. That said, Cus told Mike to avoid an old George at all costs. And Frazier had an output that few heavies had. My thought is that George is a tad overrated and Mike could derail him more often than George could take him a bit further and put him out. One of the greatest mythical match-ups ever. One thing I do know is that Marciano would have no chance against either.
Are you trying to imply that Foreman was gassing when he was bouncing Joe around the ring? I personally believe George was " enjoying " himself. Sorry wrong reply. I meant to reply to hookfromhell. From February 70, until October 74 Foreman was considered ( rightly or wrongly ) to be an indestructible force.
Tyson has a very good chance early here and Young George was good for 5-8 rounds depending on the pace. Tyson also only once stopped a man after the 8th round so I think this fight ends by the 8th but more likely by the 3rd round in a Hagler-Hearns type of fight. I leaning towards Tyson in he gets off 1st but if he gets caught early by George tide could swing,George proved in the Lyle fight that he could get off the floor to win but he also failed in the Ali fight to get up and Young dropped him to win a UD. Tyson never got up to win......I'm thinking Tyson by 5 but if it becomes a war of will Foreman takes it.
I never said I thought Foreman was gassing. And Seamus just to confirm I know Cus showed MIke tapes of 70s Foreman telling him no swarmer could beat him, but didnt Cus pass away before George made his comeback? Anyway good point they haven't faced equivalents. Let's talk about the first round, George came out timid for the first round against Norton, then we all know what happened in round 2. Does George come out conservative, we know Mike isn't.
While it's true that neither faced the equivalent of one another, Tyson did face Ruddock twice--who showed more shades of Foreman than just about anyone ever, other than maybe Ibeabuchi. Tyson fared pretty well in those fights and didn't fight with anywhere near the technique he showed in 87 or 88.
Nah, George just intimidates Tyson from the off. Then it is just a matter of how much punishment Mikey can take before the ref stops it.
Perhaps because pre-Buster he had stopped 32 of 37 before the 8th. That kinda takes down your stats on stopping them after 8.
A better question is, what happens if this fight goes past the 5th round, who takes it? My money would be on Tyson.
Foreman was TKOd once in His whole long Career in an Era the likes of we will never see again.....Big George takes Him in round 8 He was a Monster in His prime.!!!!!
