Personally I think he'd be more motivated to beat Lewis than Rahman. Unfortunately at that period he was not motivated to beat anybody and was only acting as a boxer. He was stiff, rigid , rusted and plodding. Rahman would of given him a UD loss. He was in terrific shape for Vitali who chose to retire instead , he would of been the same for Tyson.
Probably but they were better fighters than Rahman. Holyfield and Ruiz actually beat Rahman pretty decisively. Ruiz hurt Rahman several times with right crosses, he just didn't look to finish. Even a fat slow Tyson was still bombing those against Nielsen effectively, like the 1-2 that hurt him in the 3rd and set up the knockdown flurry. Rahman wouldn't have had an answer for that either.
Rahman beat Toney decisively who beat the absolute beaks of Holyfield. Tyson couldn't get Danny Williams out of there loading up and bombing out those hooks. Williams had an answer. His answer was knocking Tyson out.
In their last contest Rahman was staggered by Toney and looked ready to take him out and Rahman protested a cut for a ND or TD if I remember correctly....Tony broke Evander down with a body attack which was clever because it worked and I dont recall anyone doing that to Evander but even so this is Mike Tyson we are talking about speed and power and Rahman would be getting hit, KO'd 2X by Maskeav and once by Tua I really dont give Rahman a chance
I've never been cool with Rahman. He was nothing special and looks too ordinary for me to give him a chance against Tyson, even the 2002 version. The Nielsen fight proved Tyson could still land heavy shots, and in my mind Nielsen could ship shots better and was tougher than Rahman.
Tyson by decapitation. Tyson could have done better with Lewis I never understood why he dropped Tommy Brooks for that fight.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Heavy Handss. Not the smartest or most mature poster on these boards.
The better question is why he got rid of Richie Giachetti, he was the best trainer Tyson had after Kevin Rooney and wouldn't take no bull****, I suppose Tyson preferred yes men to trainers who would stand up to him.
I think if Mike was close to the form he had showed against Golota 2 years earlier that he could have gotten Rahman out of there early.
