As I just said in the post you quoted, Jeffries. I imagine Tyson would have a good shot at taking out a Sullivan, Corbett or Fitzsimmons early, but none of those are givens- if he's fought all three of them on the same day, even if he's managed to dispose of them all early(doubtful), he'll still have taken a good deal of cumulative punishment and expended quite a bit of energy in the process and will be ripe pickings for Jeffries. I'm not sure Tyson beats Jeffries even if he's completely rested and at his best, let alone if he's just fought three world-class opponents earlier that day.

In addition, when you say "London Prize Ring rules," do you mean Tyson of his peak just being transported back to the 1880's and 90's and thrown in the ring with these guys, or Tyson with stylistic adjustments? Because someone trying to fight a modern-day boxing style against the cream of the crop in a much different system of fighting would be likely to get crushed, much the same way that if a top boxer fights an MMA match against a top MMA Fighter, he'll almost certainly lose, and vice versa.

If he fights them in that order under London Prize Ring Rules then I dont see him getting past Sullivan who would in any event be his toughest asignment.

Huh? Tyson's ******ing technique would break his hands in the first round. "Tyson throws a left hook... And clutches his hand in pain! What a moron!"

As for the clinches, Tyson wasn't THAT strong. He looked a lot stronger than he was. Holyfield was able to handle him inside with ease; I remember even Mitch Green was stronger in the clinches. Against someone like Jefferies, he'd have his arms broken.

Oh my goodness... Tyson was outmuscled by guys who were taller and strong as well... You make them out to be weaklings- If two guys are the same strength (roughly) and one guy has 4" on the other, the smaller guy is getting manhandled in a clinch or upper body wrestling match! Jeff wasn't that big, and not strong enough to break Tyson's arms in any clinch. And what makes you think Tyson would put everything on those punches if he knew the rules? He's kind of a historian himself, he would realize this and adjust. He isn't a complete "moron"...

    1. Holyfield wasn't that much bigger than Sullivan or Corbett in height terms, and they were probably stronger (in functional strength terms). Jefferies was just as tall as Holyfield and far, FAR stronger.

    2. The "break Tyson's arms" was hyperbole.

    3. It's not so much a question of force as technique. Presuming Tyson did try to adjust, he would be limited because it would be completely outside of all his training; it would be like trying to learn how to box all over again.

Presuming Tyson could magically adjust, he'd still have problems because he would be totally unprepared and unused to the inside game of the early 20th century/late 19th century. After all, he never really got the hang of dealing with the inside in the 20th century; that was always a weakness for him, as you've noted.

He could knock them all out, but he wouldn't.

Had we forgoting that Tyson broke his hand in a street fight vs Mitch Green?? Tyson did not know how to punch with OUT the gloves or even the small gloves. And his FIRST fight is the strong boy John L Sullivan who can take a licking.

Assuming if Tyson beats the great John L. I belive Tyson's hands would be damage. I think his shots ends with Corbett. Assuming he gets by Sullivan. Fitzs has a great shot also. I cant belive you guys are makeing Tyson to be some kinda of God.

I am inclined to think they all get blown away but after two he would not be the same.

I give it to the four but ONLY because its under London prize ring rules and Tyson would have to make a big adjustement from modern boxing to Prize Ring Rules.

Under modern Rules Tyson Clears it.
