Vitali had a heck of a time timing Byrd because of how well he was pivoting and attacking from his sides. Tyson had similar movement in his prime, he was routinely changing his angles to blindside his opponents and even attacking from opposite stances. Vitali didnt hit that hard either and 80s Tyson could keep up his rythm for a full match. I see a UD for Tyson here.
Byrd and Tyson are nothing alike lol ones a backfoot southpaw counter puncher the other a forward moving power puncher and Tyson did slow down as the fight went on even in his prime and doubt he has the power to knock out Vitali
Them having different styles doesn’t mean they fought different all the time, Byrd had plenty of moments of success when he went forward because Vitali was too robotic to keep up with his angle changes. He also had issues with Hide because his hands were too fast for Vitali’s lean-back style to be effective. Tyson would be too mobile for Vitali imo. His KO power went away but he didnt slow. He doesnt need to KO Vitali either, he just needs to be able to get his attention and he can, Sanders had him rocked to his boots and Lewis literally tore his face apart. Those two hit harder than Mike but the gap isn’t that big either.
Hide didn't give Vitali any issues he took one round to figure out his timing and then timed him and knocked him out as he was coming in the next round. Vitali doesn't really struggle with front foot fighters at all he has been able to time all the one he fought. A good mover who could go in and out could probably give him trouble but that's not how Tyson fights.
Tyson too much for either ... but especially for Vitali he'd have to be at his best ... the vision that defeated Thomas, Briggs, Holmes and Tubbs ..
Ali wasn’t an in and out fighter he fought at range which is why I think Vitali beats him. Someone like Usyk would be a challenge for Vitali
Ali had a pendulum step and stepped in with a jab or a counter or flurries before angling out he did this all the time especially in the 60s. Also Ali is one of the best movers ever like you said this could give Vitali issues
Vitali was getting slapped up in that first round, luckily for him Hide had a glass chin. Vitali never fought any front-foot pressure fighter like Tyson before, they were all lumbering dudes that Vitali could freely control the distance against. Tyson is different, he has similar movement that Byrd used to trouble Vitali when he went forward and also the toughness and power to not get walked down and broken by Vitali’s pressure. 90s Tyson gets ran over but 80s Tyson most likely wins a decision. You can’t beat that guy by fighting in a straight line.
From what I've seen he mostly fought at long range peppering opponents with punches and then countering if they came into range which is why I think bigger longer fighters would trouble him
I envision Ali would make Vitali come to him and work from there because Vitali likes to stand in the center of the ring against smaller opponents unless they were agrressive. He was mostly a moving rangy boxer but he was moving in and out against Bugner and Williams in spots
Mike Kills Wlad, but styles make fights and Vitali could stop him late. He's big, much tougher than Wlad and an awkward style I think Vitali could beat him, not certain, but don't like the match up for Wlad. Post prison Tyson loses to both
