No, I was in the corner, but not working. I let Wes Nofire assist Mark Murdock and Charles Young in the corner for that fight...Nofire was the lead sparring partner for the Klitschko fight...!!!
I worked with KJ from the Hawkins fight up to the Joshua fight (only fight I missed)...!!! It was fun, he actually is a great guy, (he) just had that stigma that he is some loud mouth jerk bum that doesn't punch...!!! It was a lot of him, but it was more of his terrible management...!!!
Other Ive worked with: Keith McKnight (1st Pro I ever worked with) Shazzon Bradley Willie Williams "Black Steel" Max Alexander (vs Roy Jones Jr) Ebo Elder Sharif Kemp Robert Allen (later years) Moultrie Witherspoon Darnell Boone Anthony Hanshaw Kevin Johnson Anthony Greenidge (fought GGG) Melissa Hernandez Cedric Boswell Josue Blocus Joshua Cordero Rommel Rene Preston Haliburton (Now a GA Commissioner) Almost worked with Holyfield vs Sherman Williams, but let another trainer assist in the corner Deontay Wilder (did sparring with KINGPIN) He owes me 1 fight in his corner Maurice Harris Travis Walker (vs Mike Middleton) Gabe Brown (worked his corner vs Travis Walker) A lot of Georgia fighters' opponents (usually I only charge a based pay for these fights...some $50, some $100, etc)
I became a cutman by going to a gym, and learning on the job...!!! After my ams days were long gone I went to a gym with the idea of being a trainer or cutman...!!! Stay with the gym through the development stage of younger fighters, working their ams fights and pro fights (if they go pro), and once you get comfortable with a few boxers, when they have fights ask around to see what other boxers on that card do not have their trainer with them, and inquire about working the corner for them...!!! When I worked Travis Walker's corner against Mike Middleton, Walker did not have a cut man for the fight, just a trainer. Knowing he was an up-and-comer at the time, I asked him if I could be his cutman and I would take $25 for each round I had to work...he won by 1st Round KO, so I was paid $0 I learned on the job, got some great advice from some great trainers & cut men during my life; Kerry Pharr, Curtis Cokes and Chuck Bozak are the most notable...!!!
