Did anyone Notice that ref started his count, one to two count behind the out side ref's count ? As soon as Douglas hit the canvass the out side ref immediately starts the count at one , the ref direct Tyson to a neutral corner then moves over buster and then pick his count up at 1 ,but the out side ref is clearly hold up I believe 3 finger, the ring ref never check with the out side ref to verify where to start the count. Based on that fact alone Buster should have been counted out .. I alway though Tyson and King were making up an excuse for his lost but after looking at the fight after a long while , the ref clearly made an error.
understand that but the ref clearly made an error in this case .. look to the left and you will see the out side ref has 3 held up while the ref start at 1 [YT]WN39fBZs8ac&feature[/YT]
Because it really wasn't a slow count. The ref did exactly what he's supposed to do.. direct the fighter to a neutral corner and then begin the count. There's nothing controversial about it.
This long count stuff is stupid. Mike Tyson probably didnt buy into this **** until King and his crew filled his head with nonsense.
what do you mean the out side ref is clearly holding 3 fingers up when the ref start at 1 it is the outside ref job to keep track of the count , it is the inside ref job to start the count according to the outside refs count !!! those are the rules !!! in this case the ref ****ed up ..
Its true the ref gave Douglas a long count but he also gave a long count to Tyson as well, Douglas was down 13 seconds Tyson was down 14 seconds.
There was the fact that Buster only started to get up at about 8 and was half way up at 9, where most refs would've called it. He stopped the count at 9 while Buster was still getting up, whereas he stopped counting for Tyson at about 8 when Tyson was fully up. No doubt Douglas was in better shape in comparison at the time of their knockdowns, but hey, rules is rules, and that's where the controversy lies.
The referee technically gave Douglas too much time, but you're wrong to claim that he "should've been counted out." He was waiting for the opportune moment to get up. If the referee had kept in perfect synchony with the timekeeper, Douglas would simply have regained his feet a moment earlier.
Actually, the ref is usually waits for the fighter who scored the kd to be in a neutral corner, then he starts counting. The outside ref started counting as soon as Douglas hit the canvas. But anyway, douglas could have gotten up quicker, but he waited out the lenght of the count like a good pro is supposed to.
What really annoys me about long count discussions is that most 8-counts take longer than an actual 8 seconds. A good example is the Mayweather-Corrales fight. I don't know how long Richard Steele thinks a second takes, but if you pay attention you'll notice that Corrales got about 12 or 13 seconds to recover from each of his knockdowns.
