Exactly. :good This whole incident was discussed in depth in the weeks after the fight actually happened. The only person who cared about this was King. The Ref is in control of the bout and Douglas responded to the Ref's count. Douglas got up when he had to get up. End of disscussion.
This is the stupidist ****ing argument ever, Douglas was clearly alert and conscious less than 4 seconds after he hit the ground. He was LISTENING TO THE REF, and WAITING till 8 to stand up, like anybody who has ever put on gloves is trained to do. He could have gotten up at any point after the refs 2 count, but he was doing what he was trained to do, and you would realize that if you ever fought.
I noticed but Douglas beat the ref's count. The question is would he have still beaten the ref's count had he picked it up at the right time? I think so but we'll never 100 percent know for sure. I am 99 percent sure he would. Taylor had 12 or 13 seconds to say he was okay to Richard Steele but few mention this fact when criticizing Steele for stopping the bout.
absolute bs.It s the ref s count that matters. Douglas was following the ref s count. He got up at 9 he could have gotten up before. it was not a long count. (personally I think the original long count was bs too. Tunney was looking up at the ref fully aware of what was going on and just following the count he was given)
I just watched this fight on ESPN2 last night, and recorded it. The count was long, and started late. So, TECHNICALLY BD was ko'd
NO -- that why you have two official keeping track of the KD its the out side ref job to take up the count while the ref is making sure the other fighter get to a neutral corner , he then looks to the outside official count ,, This is the same situation between Ali and Liston , after the KD Walcott was scrambling to gain order in the ring by the time he did, Liston had gotten to his feet beaten the Walcott's count but the out side official had already counted him OUT!! Thus ending the Fight Via KO for Ali..
Understand that but it was the Ref who started the count late , The out side official is just as binding as the inside ref count , and according to his count BD was counted Out.. Lot of fighter are aware of count but get counted out because the lose of the refs count. A perfect example of this was Rafael Ruelas KO loss Mauro Gutierrez , Ruelas looked to his corner to let them know that he was OK and misjudge the ref count and rose at the count of 10 thus being officially KOed. Ruelas tried to protest but the count of the outside ref who also counted him out up held the ruling .
There's no fabrication here it there on tape , BD was technically counted out. ref failed to sync with the outside judges count , That a fact and it also a rule that he does sync with the outside judge . Walcott was fired as an official for not doing so in the liston , ali fight.
It doesn't matter that Douglas was aware or not , what matter is the ref failed to do his job and pickup the count where the out side ref starts.. That is a BOXING RULE .. The out side ref count is just as important as the inside ref .
Fine but it would not have made a difference in the fight. You see it in virtually every knockdown in boxing. The fighter that went down quickly clears the cob webs then looks at the ref and waits for him to get to 8 before getting up. Had the ref counted faster buster would have just gotten up faster and we would have had the same result.
you don't know that , and had he counted faster buster may have gotten to his feet faster and that meant mike may have had a few more second to end the fight..
