We can debate all we want about what might have happened. At the end of the day buster was up before teh ref reached 10 and he owned Tyson for every other minute of that fight and then knocked Tyson out. It was a fair fight with a fair outcome. Tyson can blame the ref all he wants but he lost that fight it was not taken from him.

no the debate in all of this was the REF made a mistake and according to the outside time keeper time BD was counted out .. and according to the rules of boxing , tyson should have via KO according to the time keeper count ...period.

Except the time keeper doesn't decide the knockdowns - the referee does.
The referee's count is final, it's the only one that counts.

However, in this case it's a moot point anyway!

Douglas clearly had his senses still about him even when he hit the deck, banging his fist in frustration on the canvas at around the count of 2 or 3. He had his eyes clearly locked onto the ref, down on one knee, waiting for the maximum possible time before rising.

Douglas just beating 10 is purely down to him waiting for the most time before rising, as is always the smart and professional thing to do when you take a knockdown (Enzo Maccarinelli still hasn't learnt this it seems). If he needed to be up two seconds quicker or whatever, he clearly could've done it. Hell, he could've been up at around 4 if he'd really wanted to.

No case to answer here. Douglas won it fair and square.

Tyson also got an equally slower count from the ref when he went down, and was clearly dazed too. So the consistancy was there.

Douglas did not have the benefit of hearing or seeing the time keepers count. in the ring the only count that matters is the ref's count. he did what every fighter is training to do. he used his full 8 count to gain his compsure. Truth is he could hav ebeen up by 4 or 5 if the ref had counted that fast.

That's so true !! It was just a matter of time before Tyson was going downhill anyways...

He fired his co-manager and then after the Spinks fight, he fires Rooney... That was the true beginning of the end !

Nothing seemed in his preparation to ever really be serious from that point on !!!

Again it's not Douglas who's at question here, it the ref ability to do his job in a critical time in a fight.
Boxing has always had the unsure outcome till the final bell , meaning a fighter can be losing one sided and then turn around and win the fight with one punch and win the fight .. The ref in this case may have robed Tyson of comeback victory , by his inexperience to control a big fight .

Exactly. This is one of the most pointless debates in boxing history. Douglas would've gotten up regardless of whether the refs count was short, long, or otherwise. And Tyson still wouldn't have had enough time to finish him.:yep

wtf are you talking about man. There is an outside ref that begins the count the second the fighter hits the canvas, once the inside ref directs the other fighter to the neutral corner he must then look to the outside ref and continue off the count from there. That count was DEFINITELY bull**** and Douglas should have been counted out, he got like 13 seconds to get back on his feet. IT was a big ass error.

Wrong the time keep count weighs just as much as the ref if not more , this rule was put into effect Sep 1 1921 by the state boxing commission the rule was created to eliminate any inconsistency .

The rules was brought about after a title fight between Johnny Wilson and Brian Dawny, Dawny claimed that after KD of Wilson ref deviated from the official time keeper time, when the ref administering ten count on Wilson .

and agin this is not a question of whether or not Duglas had his senses or not its irrelevant, it about a ref who failed to do his job properly ..

no one is crying about it just merely pointing it out once again that Douglas should have gotten counted out, do us a favor and don't post if you're going to post worthless posts such as these.

Thank you , it about time someone realized the error here ..

Regardless if Douglas had his wit about is irrelevant , the fact is the outside time keeper count had BD counted out and the fight should have ended ..

Douglas was ready to get up when the ringside timekeeper reached 8 but he was paying attention to the ref's count I think we can all agree on that. So what you are arguing is that if the ref had counted 3 seconds faster that Douglas would have still gotten to his feet but Tyson could have used those extra 3 seconds to finish the job. I think that is highly unlikley as Douglas wasn't really all that hurt. I don't think that the count had any effect at all on the outcome of the fight.
