Mike Tyson Vs Buster Duglas "the long count"

Boxers are trained to take the full count if they are knocked down. Getting up too fast could mean falling back down again and risking a stoppage. So if you get knocked down, take the full count, as it won't benefit you to get up sooner. Buster was listening to the count and he got up based on the ref's count. If the ref started the count too late (which I am not saying he didn't), that isn't BD's fault.

I can't believe so many are debating this 18 years later jeez louiseatsch Douglas's job was to look at the ref, which is what he did and got up at 9 and Knocked Tyson the **** out:yep CASE CLOSED...
Tyson had a chance to win the title back in 1991, but he had a boo boo in training camp, and pulled out of the Holy fight, something i was sad to see because Holy would have beat his ass..

 

I thought Holy did beat his ass? And actually beat his ass into the LOONY bin, if I remember correctly. :yep

 

I heard about this controversy when I read Mike Tyson's biography on Wikipedia, so I'll probably look for a copy of this match. I hear watching movies of matches can be educational to learn about techniques and stuf, since I want to learn his 'peekaboo' style.

 

i counted 13 seconds personally from the knockdown to the ref stopping his count

 

Oh god .. whenever they show that fight on ESPNCL someone posts a thread disputing the long count ...tssssk

 

The referee INSIDE the ring is the one that's in control, not the one outside the ring. And the rules of boxing are " a fighter must go to a neutral corner before a count can begin " hence the referee FIRST directing Tyson to the neutral corner, and THEN beginning the count.

Dig it?

 

Has anyone actually thought that the outside ref started too early............

It might've been a little slow but that's part of boxing. The point is that Douglas got back up and in the next round, he was unaffected and started to hurt Tyson once again. Tyson had no chance in this fight.
