There's no way to (accurately) respond to this inquiry without the entire thread becoming a D. Haye s**tposting festival. Having said that...

It's highly doubtful he would've even taken a fight with any version of Tyson. Against a "Prime" version, he'd be dispatched early -- within four rounds.

Why would he not take a fight with any version of Tyson? 56 people fought Mike Tyson it is not like people were refusing to fight him. Haye fought the best guy in the cruiserweight and heavyweight division at the time. Fighters fight the best if they are capable, because that is their job, that is what they have to do to win belts, to accomplish and achieve the things they hold important in their life.
Maybe you are just joking and having a dig at Haye though. People that are being serious though, just sound very silly though.

ANY VERSION of Tyson to beat Haye, also refers to the version that lost to a low grade domestic bum like Williams and a club fighter like McBride.

A). Tyson fought in an era where the only way to be 'The Man' was to go through everyone in your way and face the top guy -- the alphabet titles only got split up in perpetuity after his (and later on to a degree Holyfield's and Lennox's) run as undisputed HW champ. The division became a lot more convoluted after this.

As a result, there was a lot less "ducking" back then in the mid to late 80's. Haye didn't fight in that era, so you don't know for sure if he would've pursued a fight with a guy like Tyson -had such a fighter been around in his era- as opposed to taking another route to a belt.

And no, Wladimir is not the same type of fighter. Haye truly believed Wlad's Chin wouldn't hold up and he also knew Wlad was tentative in the ring at the time, circa the Ibragimov fight.

B). David Haye didn't clean out the CW division before he moved up to HW. He also wasn't Undisputed.

C). David didn't seem too keen on fighting an old, fossilized version of the current Shannon Briggs, once it became time to put all of the posturing aside. Some claim Briggs priced himself out of the fight, while Briggs himself says Haye wanted NO PART of him and just "cowardly" found a way out.

In the end, Haye guaranteed that the Haye-Briggs fight would happen (next) if Briggs fought and won on his previous undercard, yet Haye went and took on Bellew (a former LHW who he thought he'd walk right through). It's one man's word against another, but what actually happened lends less credence to Haye's side.

An ancient, "Let's Go Champ!" Briggs is no 'Prime' Tyson -- not by any means. If Haye wouldn't even fight him, then there's definitely reason to believe he'd have reservations about facing a 'Prime' Mike Tyson.

 

The legend of Haye's CW run had been greatly blown out of proportion for a while. I recall some saying he's a top 3 ATG at CW. Low standards i guess.

 

Due to the money generated by (Prime) Mike Tyson's fights, I actually think Haye might've been more apt to take that fight now -- and he would have been destroyed within four rounds.

Haye wasn't a "bum" and was a very solid CW who went on to have a degree of success in the post-2005 HW era. However, this is a pretty bad styles match-up with him against one of the most destructive HWs the division has ever seen (when he was focused and had the right people around him, and thus 'Prime').

 

Who wins? Prime Tyson or Haye ?

 

Every heavyweight is in a era were there is one guy, who is the man. In Tyson's era it was Spinks(who beat Holmes) in Haye's era it was Wladimir(who beat Byrd). If your life choice is a boxer and you have the ability you are going to fight the number one guy in the division. If Haye was in Tyson's era it would be Tyson. Boxers fight the champion if they have the ability.

David Haye was the number 1 guy in the cruiserweight division. If you really want me to prove it I can.

I don't take the Haye vs Shannon fight seriously. It is a pointless fight, and not many people wanted to see it, I did not.

 

If somebody held a gun to my head and said pick the right one or my family would be shot. I would pick Tyson. This is not the complete mismatch people are making this out to be though, it would be a tough fight, that Haye does have a chance of winning.
