Tyson threw half jabs at holyfield which were ineffective, he had become a puncher at this time. From 99 onwards he had become extremely one dimensional and was a straight forward head hunter.
They were about the same size in terms of height and reach, Tua had a larger bone structure and bigger legs. Tyson looked like a midget as well against LL. Tua's power and chin are not overrated, you're just looking for something to justify your Tyson bias. Ike was a physical specimen and hit like a ****ing freight train, that much is obvious. Enormous powerful SHW. Huge waste of talent. Tyson wouldn't have lasted in a ridiculously high work rate slugfest like that. Nobody knocked out Byrd until Wladimir seven years later. Tua's not getting KO'd by Tyson, just get it out of your mind, it's not going to happen. Tua was never knocked out and Tyson wouldn't do it If anybody is getting knocked out it would be Tyson in the later rounds when he tires and Tua comes on strong. "Coulda,Woulda,Shoulda" that sums up Mike's career quite nicely.
Tua did not look to engage against LL, which is why LL did not hit him much, LL was pretty content to just out box him on the outside and fight him from a distance. This Tua was at his peak, conditioned and still made to look very ordinary and Lewis did not praise any thing about tuas effort. In contrast Tyson in spite of being gassed, out of stamina due to poor conditioning kept taking risks and making an effort to get close to Lewis, he literally walked on his inside and even ate some monstor jabs, upper cuts from Lewis to get close to him and remember this absolutely shot tyson took a Lewis in the prime of his fighting life to 8 full rounds and earned once in a blue moon praise from a full of himself fighter, "the guy is very tough, he can take a heck of a punch, some of the shots he took were just incredible" & later Lewis admitted this was the first time his hands were very sore after a fight and Tyson didnt even fight that night, he was just a stationary helpless target. So tuas chin was not tested against Lewis compared to Tyson so tuas fight against Lewis proves nothing spectacular about his untested chin. Secondly Ike had a high work rate, there is no evidence of his punching power. Thirdly don't divert this discussion to a shot Tyson vs Tua. This is a prime for prime battle and tyson from 1985-91 & from 95-97 had a more diversified arsenal to school a one dimensional Tua. Lastly, Tyson even now inspite of the immense talent he wasted is more followed, popular, famous compared to the real deal and chinny LL. Every sensible and rational person knows the guy from 1985-88 was just pure dynamite whom no one wanted any part off.
Tua took hard shots against Lewis and had the epic war with the huge punching stamina freak Ibeabuchi and stood up to all those shots. He was never knocked out in his career, only knocked down once at the end of his career. His chin is proven. Ike was a huge power puncher, you would have to be a fool to think otherwise. TS never specified if it was a prime for prime or not. I assume it is based on when they could have reasonably fought in reality which could have been somewhere around 1999-2003.
What rubbish, Tua did not take the kind of shots against Lewis that Tyson took, like I said Tyson kept making an effort to get close to Lewis inspite of eating up monstor punches, jabs and upper cut. Tua in comparison just backed off his game plan after taking a couple of jabs. Secondly it is saying something when Lewis chooses to praise Tyson in the post match interview but mock Tua in comparison calling him a one trick pony. It would be foolish to have double standards by making the excuse that Tua only got knocked out at the end of his career. Even Tysons most severe knock outs against ll and Williams came at the end of his career. The kind of punishment he took for ten whole rounds against Douglas is something no one else could have taken. Lastly thank you for acknowledging that Tua had no chance against Tyson in his best years
Why is the debate turning on who hit harder or had a better chin? It is highly unlikely that it is going to turn on the difference. Lets start by assuming that they were equal in these respects, then take it from there. Whatever conclusion we then reached, it is highly unlikely that a slight difference in chin/power would overturn it.
Never knocked out only down once. I never said that don't put word in my mouth. Tua would always have chances against Tyson. Of course if they fought when it made sense to make this fight 1999-2003. Tua would beat him and probably by stoppage.
It's because the Tyson nut huggers Azzer and Savak want to justify their moronic belief that Tyson would blow Tua out.
The debate should turn on styles, and resumes. That is basicaly what we do with a fight that happens tomorrow.
He had a stamina advantage. Calm down, I'm not calling you moronic just your heavily bias opinion that Tyson would easily knock a guy out with a proven admantanium jaw who has never been KO'd. Tyson's not getting him out of there early and history has proven that he wouldn't have much of a chance to get him out late. I'll just say this, if it's a prime for prime fight say Mike late 80's and Tua late 90's I think Tyson would win by UD in a fun competitive fight where he has to hold off Tua late to hang on to a points victory, something like a 116-112 win. If they fought when it could of happened in 1999-2003 then I see the fight being competitive early with both men landing big shots but as the fight progresses Tyson tires and takes more and more punishment. Tua throws a barrage in the 11th and Tyson isn't responding back and the ref intervenes. Tua by 11th round TKO.
Tyson was undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. Tua didn't even sniff a title belt. Tyson would smack Tua around for trying to imitate him.
