This fight was planned to take place in November 1991 and if Tyson had not gone to prison it definitely would have.Tyson was still close to his peak and Holyfield was in his prime around this time.To me this a very even pick em fight.

    Holyfield...Holyfield, Holyfield.

Holyfield was confident from day 1 that he would beat Tyson. When they were in the ams together he had the confidence, he had the hex over Mike and he is supposed to have been the alpha over Mike, for the character that Tyson was, that is not negligible.

It went exactly like Holyfield said it would when they actually fought...hard to see why it would be different here.

Tyson in 1991 was about 80% of himself instead of 50% of himself by 1996.....................so tough to say whether tyson could beat holy in 91.......i kinda think those 2 fights with ruddock took sumthing outta tyson(and ruddock 4 that matter)...........but ill say this tyson/holy in 91 woulda been a lot more competative than in 96.....tyson was a 3 rd fighter in the mid to late 90s...............early 90s he could go 12 rds still.....so ill go with tyson via 12 rd dec.....he was an 8 to 5 favorite to beat holy back then.

I think Holyfield beats Tyson at any stage in their careers

Too much mental strength for Mike even if Mike still thought he was invincible and hadn't lost to Buster Douglas i think he gets a wake up call from iron willed Holy. Once Mike realised he was in a long hard fight going the distance he gets broken down and stopped.

I've thought about it a lot and i can not see a scenario where Holyfield does not stop mike

While it may have been a slightly better fight than their initial meeting, I think that I'd always have to pick Evander in this scenario. Holyfield was in the pick of his prime in 1991, and although he had a momentary scare against Bert Cooper, I would not let that jar my confidence in him. He had the right combination of skills, heart, chin and physical attributes that none of Tyson's prior opponents had.

Evander would have always been up for Mike. He had the late round power necessary to get Tyson out of there, and the durability to stand up to whatever Mike tried to dish out. Keep in mind that Holy is four years older than Tyson. 1991 would have been four years closer to his peak than when they actually did fight. (Holmes was Evander's last fight before turning 30.)

I really think a '91 Tyson knocks out a 205lb Holyfield who'd have a nightmare holding him off and be happy to brawl, probably wasnt as educated with his head then either. Tyson wouldn't fade as quickly as he did after 4years in the can either

I think Evander would have always been up for Tyson, but I think Tyson would have been as well in 91. Look at Evander going into the final rounds of his first fight with Tyson. He was gassed and had the look of defeat on his face against a fighter who was not offering the same type of offense as he would have in 1991. Sure Holy was better too in 91, but not defensively in my opinion.
Now lets rewind to 1991, Tyson had gone 12 with Razor Ruddock, his timing was still pretty good, his technique and combination punching were better. He was more prepared to handle what Evander Holyfield had to offer, and what many fighters had not had problems dealing with over the course of 12 rounds.
I think Tyson is too much for Holyfield and he wins by stoppage in a mid to late round competitive fight.

Tyson all the way. A Pre prison Tyson was a totally different animal to the mentally ******ed one that fought Holyfield. Against Holyfield he was looking to the referree for help after every clinch/heatbutt, a sign that the fighter doesnt have the bottle. Compare that to the one that fought Ruddock, he was lowblowing at will and not scared of anything.
Pre prison Tyson too confident, too big, too strong for Holyfield (in 1991).
No way Holyfield TKO's a younger, stronger Tyson who went 12 rounds with Ruddock and was still swinging at the end.
If you were Evander Holyfield, would you be scared of a guy that was getting outboxed by Buster Mathis? or getting pushed around my Peter Mcneely? i think not. The only reason Holyfield was so desperate to fight Tyson was because he knew Tyson was shot. He saw something that none of us did at the time.

dude i hope you're just being a dick but age doesn't always define somebody's prime
Tyson wasn't as battleworn as Holyfield was in their two fights, but he still wasn't peaked MENTALLY, you have to realize that Tyson no longer had the beautiful bob and weave, and he didn't have the combinations or the speed that he use to have. the chin and the power were still there but he was missing a lot of what he used to have.
Tyson was not prime at 29 years old. He was pretty bad actually compared to his former self. He was still ripped, and conditioned, but he just didn't fight the same that he used to.
I'm pretty sure you're one of the only ones that claims he was peaked at 29...

Tyson always were weak mentally - he hated ppl standing up to him cos he is a spineless BULLY.

Tyson looked 95% of his Best/Peak VS Bruno 2 as anyone Not blind can see his head-movement, Combos And speed were 95% like they were in his 1986--1990 Peak And teh same year 1996 he was DESTROYED by Holyfeild - BUT Holyfield made him look bad cos he had his number - when really he v.close to his best. At least you say he were ripped And conditioned VS Holyfield, cos Holyfield prooved Tyson only can FIGHT for 5 roundz before he get tired like a baby.

Watch this And see how v.good his combos/head-movement look in 1996!!
