As a Fury fan I could see him having a lot of problems with a prime Mike early on. That head movement was sublime I'm not sure he could get anything good going with consistency. On the flip side, Fury showed a lot of heart a few times in his career now and good stamina and recovery skills. Mike Tyson faded quite badly against James "Quick" Tillis if he hadn't dropped him it could have easily been called a draw. Think this would be a fight of 2 half's both men having their hearts and desire tested. I could see Fury potentially getting dropped and hurt early on but also possibly battering Mike later in the fight. I couldn't call this one it all depends on the night.
If you look at Mike in his prime the type of guys he had issues with: Tillis, Tucker, Douglas etc. Big, tall guys who could move and give him angles. Fury is the most extreme example of this breed of fighter. Probably even more so because Fury could impose a strength and physicality that none of those guys were capable of. How tired would Mike be after a few rounds of him chasing the KO in vein and getting leaned on by the human colossus? Mike was also a huge front runner. He only had like 1 or 2 knockouts in his career after the 6th round. Fury doesn’t seem to ever get tired. So if Mike can’t get Fury out of there quickly and it starts becoming a gruelling physical contest, it becomes a matter of how long he lasts before he ragequits or gets knocked out.
different type of footwork. A come forward boxer doesn't need quick footwork, they just need the general knowledge at closing the ring down. The best heavyweight i've seen at closing the ring down was George Foreman, and he certainly didn't have quick feet LOL. Mike Tyson was a beast, and my favourite boxer, but his prime didn't last long. When you look at it in hindsight there weren't many fights that Tyson won where he had to face adversity. That's the real problem I have with Mike Tyson. I think Cus knew Tyson didn't have the best mental strength, which is why Cus spent so long planting the mental strength in Mike Tyson's head about controlling fear. Tyson Fury mentally tougher then Mike Tyson, so therfore if the fight is tough, you'll have to favour the mentally tougher boxer.
People always mention Tyson having problems with Tillis but rarely look at all the facts. Tillis was Tyson's 5th fight in 5 months!! Tyson went on to fights 13 times in 1986 which included lack luster performances like the ones against Tillis and Mitch green but come on 13 times in one year is no small feat regardless on who you're fighting and let's not forget the last of those 13 fights was the Berbick fight, fury Joshua and co wouldn't have lasted in that era. Despite being fairly skilled fury is too inactive. In my opinion the 90s fighters don't get as much credit as they deserve, they were more skilled than this generation of fighters, Even the gate keepers back then had better fundamentals than this crop of heavyweights
Stop being a fanboy, dude. Most of the guys Mike fought early on were abysmal. Cayton and Jacobs pulled off one of the most brilliant marketing jobs in the history of boxing the way they navigated and promoted Tyson.
The 90's heavyweights get a lot of credit and are regarded as one of the best ever heavyweight eras of all time. The truth is when talking about Mike Tyson is that we never really saw Tyson in his prime. No boxer reaches their prime in their early 20's unless theres a bad reason, and with Tyson he was that bad reason. Mike Tyson should of been reaching his prime at the age of about 28-30 years old, so unfortunately we never really saw how good Mike Tyson could of been, so therefore we have to go by what happened, and Mike Tyson really should of achieved a lot more than he did.
Fury nearly ate some hooks lol But he didn’t? Not one left hook hit Fury, the whole point is to make them miss slightly so you can actually hit them back
218lbs 5’10 man coming forward against a 270lbs 6’9 man would not end well, Mike Tyson would get bullied, + Mike Tyson punching from that low down against that high of a target, first off Cury would see practically everything coming and Mike Tyson wouldn’t be able to get anything his punches, a ramrod jab from Fury would offset anything Tyson planned on doing and behold the have his way on the inside
Fury wouldn’t allowed himself to get hit clean by a 5’10 man, Tyson would gas by round 5, he would try to attack Fury, but Fury would just keep him at bay with his long lead hand, push him away, lean on him and he would be gassed by round 5. At that point Tyson’s feet would have slowed down and Fury would just pick him apart and rock him about, Fury would not allow himself to be hit with combos on the ropes like other Tyson victims, he’d wrap him up and lean all over him early on
