That is true. Nobody had ever tried anything like that before. All those experts had egg on their faces when Foreman proved them wrong. You should remember then that after his fight with Evander Holyfield many in the press, media gave Foreman alot of respect for his performance. He wasn`t a joke. Foreman shook Holyfield a couple of times and took some punches that would have knocked out most men {regardless of age}.
I agree Big George managed his career intelligently. He certainly avoided certain styles. I don`t think he would have fought Lennox Lewis or Riddick Bowe. He didn`t avoid guys that could punch though. Foreman showed he could take a good punch stand in there for 12 rounds with anybody.
Tyson lost to Mcbride and Williams. Foreman would knock them both out at the same time in 1 round now. Foreman knocked out Frazier who had a better chin than Tyson. That would explain all the times he went the distance... All five of them! Common opponent Evander Holyfield. Old Foreman gave peak Holyfield holy hell while Old Holyfield made a young Tyson his *****. Certainly up for debate It's not like he fought Ali or anything right?
Foreman was very smart to avoid The Easton Assassin, who very much wanted the fight and still loathes Foreman for ducking it.
Moorer would lose focus earlier and be separated from his senses in round 4 through 8. Moorer was very psychologically fragile and petulant.
Foreman never avoided holmes mate. If he was better or worse stylistically for foreman is a different topic but in the 70s was the team of holmes who avoided a fight with foreman in 1976 because larry was not ready for george at that time, the foreman team wanted a fight with holmes to get ready for a rematch with ali . read http://www.thesweetscience.com/articles-of-2005/1638-why-we-didnt-see-foreman-holmes-circa-1975-77
As I recall, the winner of Foreman-Briggs was tentatively slated to face Lewis. Many people believe Foreman deserved the nod, but it went to Briggs and he did go on to face Lennox. That doesn't mean that Foreman would have indeed faced Lewis, but I always got the impression that was the idea there.
In 1988 I'd take Tyson. In 90-91, I'm less certain - Tyson was in decline and Foreman was on the rise and finding a groove.
