Against Tyson, I'd give Toney (James) about the same chance that I would give Tony Blair. Good talkers, though.

Toney’s a convincing actor though. Lol!

He could get blitzed. However, he could also diffuse Tyson. If they fought 10 times, I don’t believe either fighter (Tyson or Toney) wins every matchup between them.

Agreed. I had always hoped these two could get it on for one last hurrah in the early 2000's when they were still active and looked decent enough against B level opponents. The money generated would be incredible due to the trash talk and clash of styles in the ring.

I also had hoped James would get a shot at one of the "Bichko sisters" (klitschko) as he put it. Would also be an interesting clash of styles, the only decent defensive fighter they faced was Byrd, many of their opposition was slow lumbering plodders or washed up contenders from the 90's.

I can't see any objective observer making a case for James Toney beating prime Mike Tyson.
You don't have to be a Tyson "fanboy" to see that prime Tyson had the speed, power and defense to run over a heavyweight version of James Toney.

Tyson. Toney can beat some decent heavyweights here and there but he really is not a heavyweight

I’m falling out of my seat with laughter.

Thanks for reminding me about the Bi+chko Sisters. There’s no doubt that Toney is a helluva smack talker.

I really wanted the Tyson camp to take this guy on when he went on his softie European tour against the likes of Savarese and Francis and so on. They were not going to face the klitschko's & Toney was out there and sounding off.

I think Tyson gets dq'd after not being able to land early & resorting to his fouling.Kind of like the evander fight once it hits the 5th round. but Tyson was not going to try and outbox Toney after he got fatigued, it'd be a foulfest. And the Tyson camp must have sensed something because they sure did not want to fight a guy with a defense Mike was going to have to break down. They wanted some nice face first guys that were going to be right in front of him.

What do you think happens when Toney fouls Mike in retaliation to the type of low blows Tyson landed on Ruddock, the arm bar he put on Botha or the bites he inflicted on his Masters, Holyfield and The Pugilist Specialist?

Toney has a million times the ringsmarts of Tyson during a bout. He would be sneaky and do his things while the ref would not be in a position to see it. Subtle. Mike Tyson wouldn't care 1 iota and would just go on fouling. And he'd get real tired of eating every right hand that toney threw & the frustration would mount.

The other big big factor here is Tyson's pre-fight preperations and training. Anyone think for a nanosecond Mike gets anywhere near top shape for a middleweight?
