Not prime Tyson, post prison Mike..... This is a super interesting fight, right ? How would Tyson do against such a great counter puncher inside fighter like James.... I don´t know.... Don´t you see Toney finding his spaces on the infighting and hitting Mike a lot ?? I do.
He would last a while & be a pain but ultimately either lose a clear decision or get stopped on a TKO. Unless you are talking about Tyson significantly declined, from roughly this century-then Tony could certainly win!
You know reviewing his record I think the odds are against it. The HW cannons he stood up against are very impressive. Although Tyson at his post-prison best might be accurate & relentless enough to force a stoppage... I cannot say that is the more likely outcome.
Prime Tyson would overwhelm Toney with his speed and power but post prison Tyson or more specifically the Tyson of 2003 to 2005 that was active when Toney was active at heavyweight would likely lose to Toney. That Tyson was basically a four round fighter that threw one punch at a time. The Tyson that lost to Williams and McBride ain't beating the Toney that was competing with Ruiz, Rahman and Peters.
The thread is about post prison Tyson.Yeah in that case, I agree that Toney would make this interesting
The Toney that beat up Holyfield in I think 2003 vs the Tyson around that time which I think would be Etienne I think would also lay a whooping on Mike. Prime Tyson obliterates Toney, but not that shell of Mike that was there at the end, he was toast.
I'm matching up: Berbick "Tyson" vs. Holyfield "Toney" The problem here is that James Toney doesn't get hit clean, he rides a lot of shots. But Tyson don't have to hit you clean to "affect" you. Tyson's best punch is also a left hook, and left hooks are the one of the weapons of choice against the "Philly shell" defense. There's also no way that Toney is gonna hurt Tyson or dissuade him, and he's shorter than Tyson so the usual tie up and lean on him tactic won't work either. Bad matchup for Toney. Think Tyson wins a decision.
Toney does not tie up or lean on guys. Can you explain that part further ? I think the Thread is a bit difficult.Because are we talking about the Tyson version that fought Holyfield or that fought Etienne
Not Toney, he definitely doesn't. I meant that is a tactic most "taller" Tyson opponents historically have used against him to stop Tyson's offense. I was inferring that Toney is shorter than Tyson so he wouldn't be able to use a well used tactic vs. Tyson even if he wanted to. I assumed regarding matchup they were talking about best/sharpest versions hence me saying Tyson that fought Berbick vs. Toney that fought Holyfield.
Ok now I can see your point. Well the TS is referring to the post prison version of Tyson without giving further specifics. I think there is now question that a prime version of Tyson beats Toney
Toney would dominate him, probably worse than he did Evander. Evander actually showed some signs of life after that fight
I believe that Toney and Sam Langford might be the only 175 pounders to get out of the 1st round against prime Tyson.
