Well seen as this has been bumped.. we might as well re-iterate that this thread is completely nuts and Tyson would have gave Mclean a hiding. In fact, a hiding is an understatement. Mclean by all accounts was a nut job and one hard ****, but I doubt he'd even fair well against British title level operators. You only have to look as far as Brian Cockerill. Big ****, fancies himself as the Middlesborough Mclean but he had full on scraps with Dave Garside who was a British title challenger. Knocked out by Cliff Fields & Waldron, both in the 1st round (funnily enough this isn't mentioned in his book). Since this thread was bumped, Roy Shaw has passed away. Him and Mclean had 3 fights, Shaw won the first I believe. Shaw was a natural MW, who by a lot of peoples accounts could have went quite far... apparently he was 10-0 or something along those lines (don't quote me on it) under the alias Roy West, but I'm not sure how factual that is. And by the time he had his 3 fights with Mclean, whilst being a blown up middleweight he'd been in jail for the past 15/20 years, had been pumped full of drugs in broadmoor and was 40 odd years old. Tyson would ruin him.
I had to laugh when reading this, i had a plumber round yesterday who could have gone all the way in both he was telling me but "fate" screwed things up. atsch
I asked a few people about Shaw in boxing gyms, old boy trainers and that and yes a lot say he could ve gone at least as far as British champion.
Some twat asked this question a few years back and actually thought it an even bout. Tyson right now would KO Big Lenny in his prime let alone the big black ****** that ripped the tigers eyes out of his sockets and inserted them into his own. Prime mike Tyson would have snapped Lenny's neck and ribs with a combination that would have laid him out cold in 10 seconds flat. He then would have ripped his arms off and beat all the east end gangsters in the audience with the soggy ends.
If you want a laugh at a youtube hardman that thinks he is of the Lenny Mclean/Roy Shaw era have a look at "The Taxman"!! Some absolute mess from the North East acts like he is interpol's most wanted!!
I was introduced to McClean many years back at the Camden Palace by one of my dodgier friends. No doubt he had a presence and aura (probably through reputation alone) but he was very friendly and welcoming. In the arena of preemptive strikes, bullying and intimidation I’m sure he was a handful but in the ring, he was bang average. If he’d of turned pro we’d just be talking (or not) about a John Fury type.
Big Bag Joan Fury is coming for you - a fighting man he roars and he has promised to eat your eyeball with his chips
